Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Department: Engineering
Classification: Exempt
Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer develops, implements and improves manufacturing and industrial processes to maximize product throughput and optimum resource efficiency. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with development teams regarding product tooling and design to ensure effectual production methods. The person in this role will work in a light-filled, state-of-the-art facility, together with a group of highly motivated and skilled team members.
Responsibilities: As the Manufacturing Engineer you will:
- Develop, evaluate, improve and document manufacturing processes including evaluation using customer-released drawings, CAD models and Engineering BOMs.
- Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments with Quality team support.
- Be responsible for all manufacturing existing product lines and capabilities.
- Assist in managing new product line set-up and ensure all data is correct and processes are followed.
- Provide knowledge on lean process flow.
- Evaluate current processes and create more efficient solutions to enhance and drive innovation.
- Research and apply additional resources and best technologies for other complex Kaizen solutions.
- Analyze material supply options and support sourcing initiatives. Provide strategic input to the make vs. buy process, and provide valuable analysis where necessary.
- Conduct time studies and establish general manufacturing targets and routings.
- Evaluate products and suppliers according to quality standards and specifications.
- Estimate staffing requirements, production times and relative costs to provide data for operations decisions.
- Review current processes and BOM setup/costs to understand production gaps and or BOM discrepancies that prevent the company from truly understanding losses.
- Responsible for the final design, setup and capacity confirmation runs of new assembly lines.
- Provide engineering support to production and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems on complex projects.
- Work with Engineering to evaluate if BOM costs are accurate during and after the development period.
- Consider setup and teardown tact times, develop optimal product run rates to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Maintain department objectives complementary to company policies and goals.
- Follow all safety and quality standards, procedures and policies.
- Contribute as a team member to Continuous Improvement projects utilizing structured problem-solving skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You’re a great fit for this position if this describes you;
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 4-6 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience with World Class Manufacturing and/or Lean techniques.
- Able to solve complicated problems for determining areas where processes need improvement.
- Able to read engineering drawings including weld symbols and GD&T.
- Strong knowledge of varying manufacturing concepts.
- Able to successfully compile information for reports and decision making.
- Capable of effectively conducting and contributing to meetings at any level.
- Able to read and understand blueprints, technical drawings and manuals.
- Proficient in current computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, Outlook and an understanding of ERP systems, Syteline experience a plus.
- Work experience with Solidworks, Auto CAD.
- BOM costing experience is a plus.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent written communications skills, including the use of proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar to produce error-free copy, particularly composing letters, reports and documents used for decision making.
- Outstanding verbal communication skills including tact and diplomacy which would be utilized during customer service, conflict management, development of relationships with internal and external contact.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and diverse projects including, analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, problem solving, decision making and carrying out assigned projects with minimal supervision.
- Able to perform in a fast-paced, team environment, under pressure with time constraints while responding and adapting to change favorably and quickly.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for up to 10-12 hours a day when necessary.
