POSITION SUMMARY
Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri (GSKSMO) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to serve as a leader of leaders and strategic visionary complemented by a growth mindset, humble confidence and a contagious passion for the advancement of girls. The CEO is accountable for ensuring achievement of the Council’s strategic priorities and plan. They are charged with leading all aspects of the organization, including but not limited to community impact, cultural engagement, fund and membership development, as well as efficient operations and fiscal management. The CEO will balance their time between an external and internal focus supporting a mosaic of stakeholders through organizational oversight, leadership insight and strategic foresight.
CANDIDATE PROFILEGSKSMO VISIBILITY & IMPACT- With an intentional external focus, serves as the “brand builder” of GSKSMO by promoting the Council, raising funds for programs, and generating awareness of girl empowerment and leadership development.
- Engages with the girls and volunteers through a servant leader mindset ensuring they have a great Girl Scout experience, feel valued, and develop an excitement for the brand and organization.
- Understands critical issues affecting girls’ lives today and advances Girl Scouts as the thought leader and premier voice for girls at the local, state, and federal level. Increases connections by reaching into every area of the Council territory to nurture strategic relationships, increase visibility, and grow membership numbers. Serves as an advocate for girls in the Council and builds the brand within the community.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP- Works closely with the Board, oversees change initiatives, and develops and implements strategic priorities and plans.
- Supports the development and execution of long- and short-term operational objectives and actions to drive the business strategy. Provides leadership on critical issues affecting the council.
- Spearheads the organization’s business strategies, ensuring they align and remain consistent with the organizational mission and core values.
- Works in partnership with the national organization to promote the national policy agenda and implement a unified policy voice and advocacy strategy.
TALENT, CULTURE & TEAM DEVELOPMENT- Motivates and leads a high-performance leadership team. Creates a persona of “we are here to work for the girls, the team, and volunteers.”
- Works with the leadership team to identify training needs and ensure proactive plans to support staff development at all levels.
- Leads the team in the selection, management, and retention of a talented council workforce committed to the Girl Scouts mission.
- Promotes employee engagement through planned opportunities across the organization that allow for every employee to experience the Girl Scouts culture positively and personally.
PROGRAM & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT- Oversees development and administration of the programs and products that supports GSKSMO’s mission, vision, goals, and strategies.
- Evaluates and advises on the impact of new programs, products, and strategies aimed at stimulating and sustaining membership growth.
- Monitors program initiatives and holds the organization accountable for reasonable growth and change.
- Assists in removing barriers to participation to ensure equal access and opportunity. Focuses on membership extension to untapped markets and underrepresented groups as a top priority for the council.
FUNDRAISING & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT- Leverages personal contacts and organizational relationships to identify potential donors and partners.
- Supports initiatives to diversify and increase funding sources (including individual and corporate donors as well as identifying and pursuing grants and other funding sources).
- Supports the Board in development and execution of fund development strategies enabling GSKSMO to address current and long-term organizational sustainability.
- Manages the annual financial planning and budget process and ensures all organizational divisions operate within the approved budgets.
CANDIDATE BACKGROUND- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Not-for-Profit Management, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive leadership experience with community impact and nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating externally with diverse stakeholder groups, including working with boards and corporate leaders in the community.
- Solid experience in representing the profession and council as a spokesperson, speaking enthusiastically and authoritatively about the value of the Girl Scout experience.
- Fundraising experience for both short-term and long-term projects and endowments. Demonstrated ability to see the uniqueness of an organization, drive growth in membership, and work collaboratively with a board to carry out the strategic plan.
- Proven decision maker with experience in complex decisions, including resolving conflict. Display a vision and a passion for the youth enrichment experience.
- Utilize diverse strategies to provide clear, proactive, and transparent communication. Be highly visible, approachable, accessible, and welcoming to all stakeholders.
