Playground Leader in Charge

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports To: Youth Sports Activity Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Safety Sensitive: Yes

Classification: Seasonal; Non-Exempt

Job Level: 3

Driving Status: No

Work Environment: Outdoor parks environment.

Summary

Provide a leadership/supervisory role in the summer Playground Program.

Essential Functions

  1. Oversee day to day operations within the confines of site location.
  2. Create weekly themes and newsletters.
  3. Ensure all safety protocols are followed at arrival and dismissal.
  4. Always ensure a safe environment for children.
  5. Assist in coordinating structured games, activities, and crafts.
  6. Responsible for all equipment/supplies at site location.
  7. Ensure daily playground inspections are completed.
  8. Liaison with Youth Sports and Activities Manger.
  9. Responsible for the cleanliness of supplies and the playground site location.

Physical Requirements

  1. Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
  2. Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  3. Ability to talk, hear, and see.
  4. Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers.
  5. Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs.

Competencies

  1. Provide direct leadership and instruction.
  2. Effectively communicate with parents and participants in the program.
  3. Effectively communicate rules, guidelines, scoring, and possible scenarios regarding activities.
  4. Communicate to children from grades 1-6. Speak clearly to large and small groups.
  5. Outgoing, energetic, and positive attitude.

Skills

  1. Knowledge of various recreational games and activities.
  2. Good leadership, communication, and social skills.

Abilities

  1. Communicate effectively with participants and parents.
  2. Give clear and concise instructions.

Required Education and Experience

  1. 1 Year Child Management experience
  2. High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Enrolled in a post-secondary program for childcare or education.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must pass required State and Federal Background Checks
