Job description

Under the administrative direction of the Nurse Director, the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) evaluates and develops initiatives to positively impact nursing quality and safety patient outcomes in effort to foster clinical excellence and professional nursing practice. The CNM partners with all nurse leaders to ensure a relentless focus on quality, safety, and improved patient care outcomes. The CNM has collaborative responsibility for regulatory and accreditation programs related to Nursing and Patient Care Services. In addition, the CNM is responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining data management systems that support information submission for NDNQI and Patient Care Link. The ideal candidate has a passion for exemplary practice and brings knowledge and experience with analyzing and presenting data.


Under the purview of Quality and Safety, the CNM provides administrative leadership to the inpatient wound care team. In this role, the CNM ensures the inpatient wound care nurses have the resources needed to promote positive patient outcomes. The CNM actively participates in Pressure Injury Prevalence surveillance and presents pressure injury data regularly in appropriate organizational forums. The CNM also facilitates close collaboration with the outpatient wound clinic to reinforce seamless transitions to outpatient care for every patient.


The Clinical Nurse Manager participates in and maintains collaborative relationships with all disciplines and departments within the organization to promote positive patient outcomes, to meet the needs of the organization and the staff, and support and maintain a professional practice environment.

The Clinical Nurse Manager, in collaboration with the Nurse Director, is responsible for the recruitment and retention of designated employees to support organizational and departmental goals.

Quality, Safety, and Accreditation

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director and other departments/disciplines to develop and maintain ongoing nursing quality improvement and patient safety activities at the organizational and department level.

• Maintains internal and external data. This includes the facilitation of nursing quality and safety data submission, managing and reporting relevant metrics related to nursing sensitive indicators, quality and safety metrics, and data impacting nursing professional practice.

• Fosters a fair and just safety culture while identifying opportunities to promote safe nursing practice when participating in safety event review or Collaborative Case Reviews.

• Represents Nursing & Patient Care Services in safety event review and facilitates Collaborative Case Reviews specific to Falls and Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPI).

• Conducts thorough electronic medical record review, monitors, and evaluates nursing documentation as indicated in quality and safety evaluation.

• Encourages, mentors, and facilitates clinical staff participation in quality improvement initiatives.

• Promotes and supports service excellence and patient engagement.

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director to provide Nursing and Patient Care Services oversight in maintaining and implementing clinical department policies and procedures in accordance with the Joint Commission, Department of Public Health (DPH), and other regulatory agencies.

• Actively participates in program development, metric tracking, and application requirements for nursing accreditation programs, as applicable.

• In collaboration with interprofessional teams, coordinates any corrective action and improvement initiatives related to safety reports.

• Assists, participates, and regularly presents data in organizational quality and safety committees.

• Assists in the development, promotion, and support of employee engagement initiatives.

• Provides oversight and administrative management of the inpatient wound nurses.

Human Resources Management

• Provides leadership and direction to those directly reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

• Assists in recruiting and retaining competent employees.

• Assists is overseeing the orientation process for new employees.

• Delegates to and supervises employees effectively.

• Coaches and mentors employees.

• Identifies own professional development needs and areas for professional growth.

• Assists with the development of educational programs.

• Uses behavioral questioning and the peer interviewing process for the recruitment and retention of competent employees.

• Identifies employee competency and learning needs and supports their development.

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director to establish work schedules and assigns employees to specified areas of responsibility.

• Collaborates with the Nurse Director on recruitment, retention, and/or other employee related issue

• Prepares performance appraisal documents in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.

• Serves as a role model for accountability and professional performance.

• Holds self and others to hospital professional standards.

• Takes corrective and/or disciplinary action when appropriate.

Finance Management

• Assists with the preparation of the department's annual operating and capital budgets.

• Assists in monitoring staffing patterns based on annual budget.

• Assists in the development of plans to enhance revenue production and/or decrease cost.

• Assists with the review of departmental productivity reports and develops variance summaries.

• Manages weekly timecards/payroll in UKG Dimensions.

• Follows purchasing and requisition requests policies.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusett

• Minimum 3 years nursing experience

• Demonstrated leadership ability required; nursing management experience preferred.

• Demonstrated and consistent skills in communication, organization, team building, priority setting, customer service, problem solving, and time management

• Specialty certification preferred, required within 2 years.

• Master's degree in nursing or related field required

• Project management experience preferred

• Competence with Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Word. PowerPoint
