GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the development, organization, promotion and implementation of multiple recreational, educational, and special event activities, involving a moderate to high degree of difficulty. Assists with the development and implementation of new programs and activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Camp Manager and in accordance with established methods, schedules and procedures; however, considerable independent initiative and judgement is exercised in meeting specific program objectives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for developing, organizing, promoting, implementing, officiating, instructing and supervising outdoor educational programs for all ages and abilities, as well as coordination of retreats and rentals at Camp Wewa.
- Summer responsibilities will include being an integral part of the Summer Camp Leadership Team. This may require participation in, but not limited to camp activities such as hiking, swimming, boating, and climbing.
- Responsibilities will include working within defined budget, marketing, staffing, logistics, evaluation, and strategic planning.
- Employee will provide daily on-site leadership for all schools and retreat groups.
- Assists with set up and break down of recreation equipment, and occasionally required to perform limited facility maintenance which may include minor repairs, painting, weeding, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning of restrooms and activity areas.
- Applies basic first aid and/or takes emergency measures necessary to insure the well-being of the program participants.
- As duties require, operates a pick-up truck, van and other related city vehicles including towing a trailer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement recreational and educational activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, supervisors, other organizations and the general public.
- Knowledge of the principles of budget development and management, with ability to prepare, direct and administer fiscal budget.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independence of judgment and action. Knowledge of principles and practices of management and supervision, including the ability to direct, train, coach, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, City officials, School officials, civic organizations and the general public. Skilled in utilizing problem-solving strategies on a daily basis.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to understand and effectively carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain work records and prepare reports.
- Ability to type, hear, speak, read, write, edit, run, and swim. Ability to safely operate a school bus, step van and other city vehicles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in recreation, environmental education, physical education, marketing, public relations, or related field is required.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in a closely related field. At least five (2) years of experience in development and implementation of an Outdoor Education program for a municipality or county.
- Must pass First Aid/CPR course within 30 days from first day of employment.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.
EQUIPMENT USED
Office equipment such as computers, fax machine, copier, communication equipment, multi‑line phone system and motor vehicles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment is consistent with general summer camp programs to include indoor/outdoor activities and may require working in adverse weather conditions. Work requires occasional standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead and lifting of up to 30 pounds; and minimal dexterity in the use of fingers and limbs in the operation of general office equipment.
