The Department of Neurology UT Southwestern Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in the comprehensive management of neurological conditions. Job Summary

A full-time Research Technician I position is available immediately in the Tsai Lab in the Departments of Neurology, Neuroscience, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry. The lab seeks to delineate mechanisms that contribute to developing cognition and behavior and leverage that understanding to better understand those mechanisms contributing to neurodevelopmental disability. Towards that end, the lab utilizes a variety of approaches from molecular, histological, and cellular to ex vivo and in vivo behavioral, imaging, anatomic, circuit, and physiological approaches combined with pre-clinical models.

Department Expectations

We are seeking a candidate with interest and experience in these above approaches. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. Experience in working with rodent models, behavioral studies, and histology are highly desirable. Applicants should have excellent record-keeping skills and be well organized. 

Experience and Education

• Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.
• Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
• High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

Job Duties

• Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
• Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus. • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor. • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
• Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
• May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
