Business Department faculty are student advisors and have professional experience. They support academic development of students who intend to transfer to a four-year institution or move directly into the workforce. Faculty have prior business and management related experience which provides credence to the learning process and allows students to understand both theory and practice in the field. CSM faculty are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. As such, we are seeking an innovative educator to join our Accounting faculty team. Accounting faculty teach courses such as Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Business Finance, Federal Taxation, Automated Accounting, Personal Finance, as well as general business courses such as Introduction to Business, Business Communications, or Business Strategy.

Business Accounting faculty teach a wide range of freshman and sophomore level undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach 15 credit hours per semester and 30 credit hours per academic year consisting of day, evening, weekend, or online classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. Faculty may be assigned to teach on the La Plata, Leonardtown, or Prince Frederick campus or any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
DUTIES AND STANDARDS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - Teach 30 credits of courses per contract year in the Business discipline, consisting of approximately 60% accounting courses and 40% business courses.
- Teach a range of courses that may include morning, day, evening, weekend or online, in an accelerated format.
- Design assignments that incorporate students' program of study and connect to the Business discipline
- Engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches
- Meet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students
- Incorporate culturally relevant pedagogies into the teaching and learning process
- Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret information
- Demonstrated ability to deliver instruction to diverse student populations, with varied levels of learning and preparation
- Knowledge and use of student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goals
- Demonstrated experience providing feedback students can use to improve their performance
- Experience developing or using Open Education Resource (OER) materials as an instructional tool
- Maintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences and activities
- Mastery of appropriate computer operation skills
- Master's degree in Accounting, Business, or a closely related field.
- CPA license, preferred.
- One year of instructional experience that includes teaching courses, conducting and managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness, preferably at the community college level.
- Two years of professional experience in Accounting or a closely related field.
- Ability to use word processing, basic internet applications, and basic database navigation
- Ability to use an educational enterprise, learning management system such as Brightspace (D2L) to support and facilitate instructional delivery
- Ability to teach in face-to-face, virtual, web, and hybrid formats.
