Assistant Project Scientist- Owen's Research Group

Position Overview:
A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,500-$113,600 annually ($43.35/hr-$54.51/hr)

A position is available in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California, Davis, in the group of Professor John Owens. The thrust of the research group is the development of novel technologies for computation on parallel processors, with a significant fraction of the group's effort toward data structures, algorithms, applications, and scalable approaches to computing on the graphics processing unit (GPU).

This position requires creative contributions to and collaborative development of an active research program in the research in the area of GPU computing. The candidate will design specific experiments, including the selection of appropriate methods and techniques, and will be responsible for carrying out the research (which may involve experimental, simulation and computational components), analyzing the data and critically interpreting the results.

The Project Scientist is evaluated for merit and promotion based on evidence of contribution to the research program, authorship in peer-reviewed publications and conference papers, active dissemination of information and other evidence of expertise. The Project Scientist will maintain professional competence and perform university and public service. Candidates with experience or willingness to engage in activities that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply.

Major Responsibilities: Research (90%):
Under the direction of the PI, the responsibilities of this position largely focus on the development of publishable research activities. This includes:

• The development of high-performance and highly parallel data structures and algorithms for GPU computing
  
• The development of a diverse collection of applications to run on GPU-based platforms
  
• The development of scalable solutions to computing problems, encompassing single-processor, multi-processor, and multi-node configurations
  
• The ability to carry out the above activities under complex design goals and constraints
  Professional Competence and Activity (5%):
  
• In collaboration with the PI and other lab personnel, support the writing and reviewing of manuscripts and presentation of data at conferences
  
• Participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and other educational and research organizations.
  
• The candidate will have opportunities to present abstracts describing his/her work at international meetings and be first author on key publications of his/her work.
  University/Public Service (5%):
  
• Help to organize meetings, workshops, and public outreach events
  
• Participate in activities of committees within the department, college, campus and other University entities, as appropriate.
