NV5’s Cary, NC office is seeking a junior level Electrical Designer to support our growing Planning and Design Group! The Electrical Designer II is responsible for designing portions of projects in their discipline. This person is assigned specific tasks on the project team and expected to use their education, experience, and other resources available to them to resolve the engineering problems and tasks assigned. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of electrical design experience with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related degree such as an associate degree or trade school certification in electrical engineering, drafting, or electrical design.
The ideal candidate would have experience in the design of pharmaceutical and laboratory facilities.
Candidate will possess a working knowledge of the principles of electrical design and have prior experience with AutoCAD and Revit. The candidate should have reasonable computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Performs electrical engineering tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer and/or project manager.
- Able to lead most electrical design tasks on a project with supervision from senior engineers, including lighting, power, fire alarm, and telecommunications infrastructure design.
- Obtains and documents field data by conducting field visits to project sites.
- May supervise junior electrical designers and review work of junior level designers to ensure quality.
- Assists senior engineers and project managers with project planning, managing schedules and budgets to complete work on time and within budget.
- Obtains knowledge of building codes and stays current with building code changes.
- Performs equipment takeoffs for estimating purposes.
- Develops plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a limited number of concurrent projects.
- Prepares studies, drawing or sketches as required; creates final design documents.
- May communicate with clients or architects to resolve issues with engineering designs.
- Obtain knowledge of building codes and stay current with building code changes.
- Perform BIM/CAD functions proficiently in the electrical discipline and will use Revit, AutoCAD , and or BIM360 MEP software to transfer design concepts to a format acceptable to the client, architect and/or construction company in accordance with NV5 standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, from an ABET-accredited engineering program, with some cooperative educational experience. In the absence of a BSEE, may consider applicants with equivalent combination of work experience and education.
- Must understand the engineering principles in the electrical discipline he/she is designing.
- Must have a minimum of five years of specific on-the-job experience in the consulting engineering field including developing plans and specifications in his/her technical specialty.
- Must be proficient in the operation of a computer and AutoCAD MEP/Revit.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ideal candidate will have five (5) to ten (10) years of consulting engineering experience designing electrical systems and developing plans and specifications for a variety of facility types
- EIT (Fundamentals of Engineering Examination) not required, but preferred.
- PE (Professional Engineer) License not required, but preferred.
- Must be able to commit to a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days in the Cary, NC office.
- Must be able to travel to job sites as needed or required.
