Laboratory Manager

Position is located in Dubuque, IA

Grand River Medical Group is seeking a confident, flexible and dependable Lab Manager . As a Lab Manager, you will be responsible for supervising the staff and the daily operations related to the lab.

The ideal candidate will provide a high-quality customer experience while maintaining a friendly and positive environment. Dependability and flexibility with schedule are a must. They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong organizational skills. They will need to be a strong team player and work closely with individuals from other departments across the organization.

This is a full-time, salaried position, 40-45 hours per week. This position is typically Monday - Friday between the hours of 6:30am - 5:00pm.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Manage the daily activities of assigned personnel, oversee the accurate and appropriate completion of testing, exams, procedures, etc. as applicable to ensure delivery of optimal patient care.
• Monitor patient flow and address patient concerns.
• Manage department receptionists in accordance with clinical and governmental standards, document quality control and quality assurance.
• Recommend department goals and objectives; suggest and implement effective policies and procedures, make recommendations for improvement.
• Manage selection, training and development, performance evaluation and performance issues for department employees. Prepare schedule and assign work to assure effective and efficient staffing levels to deliver a high level of customer/patient service.
• Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, and coagulation.
• Provide direct patient care as needed.
• Interview and prescreen applicants for vacant positions and make recommendations for employment and/or terminating personnel as requested.
• Monitor budget activities related to the department.
• Upgrade and maintain equipment.
• Monitor the ordering and receiving of supplies, conduct inventory analysis.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• The Laboratory Manager has supervisory responsibility for their assigned department, including approximately 10-20 direct reports.

Education/Experience/Skills:

• MT, MLS or MLT certification - required.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification - required.
• Bachelor's degree in healthcare and/or business administration a plus!
• Minimum of five years lab experience required; two years of supervisory experience preferred.
