Injury Prevention Coordinator

Job description

This job is responsible for researching, developing, implementing and maintaining an organized interdisciplinary health approach to injury prevention, including areas of focus such as: motor vehicle occupant safety, motorcycle/bicycle safety/helmet initiatives, pedestrian safety, fall and/or firearm injury prevention, violence intervention and screening programs. As a community engagement strategy, an incumbent will research available documentation regarding recent injury and illness trends to develop effective mitigation approaches and provide for the education of healthcare providers and community advocates in care of the patient. 

 

Work includes: Researching and developing graphs/tables and other documentation highlighting recent injury mechanisms or trends from the registry; reporting injury prevention activities, including related deliverables; developing, coordinating and maintaining approaches for community education and outreach designed to improve outcomes, developing and maintaining, in collaboration with unit-based and regional RN educators, an organized orientation for new team members caring for patients and improving outcomes; preparing/negotiating funding-related grant applications and service contracts; and serving as an advocate for quality patient care.

 

Incumbent is accountable for engaging in/attending educational offerings for further professional growth, keeping abreast of regulatory matters that may impact scope of work, and maintaining familiarity with VMFH operations and major data programs utilized and seeking guidance from staff members or management on matters that deviate from standard practice and/or non-routine issues/problems.
