Job description
You are a seasoned financial leader with a wealth of experience in managing complex
accounting functions. You possess a team-oriented mindset with a unique blend of technical
expertise, strategic vision, and leadership acumen that sets you apart in the field of financial
management. You have at least 7 years of progressive experience in financial management
with a focus on trust accounting and firm operations, preferably personal injury law firm. Your in-
depth understanding of accounting principles, regulations, and standard specifics to legal
entities enables you to navigate the intricacies of financial reporting and compliance effortlessly.
You have a track record of established trust with all levels of employees and are able to
maintain high levels of confidentiality while managing a multitude of classified information as it

Requirements
You will develop and implement financial policies and procedures that optimize efficiency,
mitigate risk, and support long-term objectives. You will remain passionate about staying at the
forefront of industry trends and emerging technologies. Beyond your technical abilities, you are
a trusted advisor to senior management and other partners. Your integrity, professionalism, and
commitment to excellence earn you the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Primary Functions for a Controller:
Financial Management
- Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis
- Ensure compliance with all accounting principles, legal regulations, and best practices in the personal injury legal field
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to maintain accuracy and efficiency
- CPA licensed preferred, but not required
- Trust Account Management
- Manage all aspects of trust accounting, including client funds, escrow accounts, and disbursements
- Monitor trust activity to ensure compliance with legal requirements and ethical standard
- Reconcile trust accounts regularly and address any discrepancies in a timely manner
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
- Present financial reports to senior management and partners, providing insights and recommendations as needed
- Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor the finance and accounting team, providing guidance and support
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that encourages teamwork and accountability
- Delegate tasks effectively and monitor progress to ensure deadlines are met
- Audit and Compliance
- Coordinate annual financial audits and reviews, ensuring all documentation and records are accurate and readily available
- Collaborate with external auditors to address any audit findings and implement recommendations for improvement
- Stay up-to-date on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry practices
- Payroll Processing
- Oversee payroll processing for the firm, ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees in compliance with regulatory state and federal requirements, and internal policies
- Coordinate with HR and department managers to verify timekeeping, deductions, and other payroll-related matters including but not limited to – mileage, commissions, bonuses, pay increases.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll regulations and tax laws to ensure compliance and mitigate risk
- Collaborate with HR should any changes affect the day to day operations of the firm
