Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
Primary Job Duties:
- Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentations.
- Select, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests, EKG including wet reading X-rays as appropriate.
- Analyze reports and findings of tests to diagnose patients.
- Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness and injury.
- Refers patient to PCP or specialist as appropriate.
- Perform procedures including laceration repair, I & D’s, IV, removal of superficial foreign bodies, splinting and casting, and ear irrigations.
- Explain procedures, review, and discuss test results and prescribed treatments with patients.
- Document findings and treatment courses in patient’s electronic medical records including follow-up notes.
- Direct professional and ancillary staff regarding the treatment of patients.
- Interact with medical practices and emergency room physicians to create a cooperative atmosphere.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries that may present in an urgent care setting.
- Assist with training and orientating new provider staff.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality (HIPAA).
Education:
- Family Medicine degree from an accredited university.
- Active Maryland Registered Nurse License.
- Successful completion of the Nurse Practitioner program in Family Practice, with Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care Experience
- Experience Med-Peds or ER
- Have earned national certification as an FNP nurse through either the ANCC or the AANP, nurses must complete at least a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) through a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Licensure/Certifications:
- Certification Family Nurse Practitioner through ANCC or AANP
- State and Federal licensure (Maryland)
- DEA licensure.
- ACLS/PALS certification.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of clinical experience with pediatric and adult patients is preferred.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical coding.
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of urgent care medicine.
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of occupational health, DOT exams
Skills:
- Competent with common PC applications including Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively; Great Bedside manner; Team leader.
- Excellent customer service skills.
