Job description

Fulfill your purpose at CLM:  

Center for Life Management (CLM) provides the area's most comprehensive array of outpatient mental health services for adults and elders. Our multi-disciplined treatment team works with individuals ages 18+ who experience severe and persistent mental illness, co-occurring developmental disabilities and substance use disorders. The Manager of Recruitment and Retention leads the recruitment initiatives for the agency while also focusing on activities that will help ensure we retain our trained and qualified staff, leads wellness initiatives, drives diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and manages the internship program . This is a hybrid, full time, 40 hour per week position.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties

Recruitment – 50% of position

The Manager of Recruitment and Retention leads all staff and intern recruitment initiatives with an emphasis on recruiting high-quality candidates with attention to external visibility, low cost per hire, an efficient hiring process and a short number of days to fill.

The Manager of Recruitment and Retention will work closely with all CLM hiring managers on staffing needs, ensures job postings are accurate and up to date, posts vacancies internally as well as externally, and that a wide variety of external sources are used to attract a diverse pool of candidates to CLM. Attendance at local career fairs, along with attending job fairs at local colleges will be an integral part of the recruitment process. 

Additional responsibilities will include being part of the interview process when needed by the hiring managers, assisting in the completion of reports and metrics and conducting interview skills training for new supervisors to ensure those with hiring responsibility are conducting interviews that are fair and legally appropriate.

Staff Retention – 20% of position

The Manager of Recruitment and Retention will also function as the New Hire Liaison and will create actions and initiatives to support the retention of new as well as experienced CLM staff, including but not limited to outreach within a new hire’s first week of employment at CLM to make initial contact, and then bi-weekly for the first several months via phone, TEAMS or in-person to assess the new hire’s assimilation, success and concerns within the CLM work environment. 

The New Hire Liaison will gather information and data and share important themes with the leadership team and recommend changes that would be benefit the staff and subsequently clients and the agency and would result in reduced staff turnover.

Additional responsibilities will include conducting periodic “stay” interviews and exit interviews with an eye towards seeking information, both positive and negative regarding CLM’s leadership style, culture and environment that will ultimately boost employee satisfaction and morale, as well as conducting an annual climate survey for the organization, with emphasis on the dissemination of the results as well as ensuring plans for improvement are rolled out across the organization, and actionable changes are made. 

Internship Program – 20% of position

The Manager of Recruitment and Retention will lead CLM’s internship program which includes creating and fostering positive professional relationships with local colleges and universities with the goal of those institutions sending intern candidates to CLM as both potential interns with the eventual goal of them becoming staff (upon successful completion of their degree and internship). 

The Manager of Recruitment and Retention will ensure all required paperwork is complete for each intern, will work with the college liaisons in the event of a mismatched intern and will provide periodic reports to the CLM management team that would include numbers of interns placed and conversion to staff data. 

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – 5% of position

The Recruitment and Retention Manager will lead CLM’s initiatives around ensuring our workforce is comprised of a talented, diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. This newly embedded part of the HR function will involve gathering data that will tell us what our organization currently looks like and where we may be underrepresented; once data is gathered analysis will be completed to identify needs and areas of concern. 

Upon completion of the analysis, the Recruitment and Retention Manager, working in collaboration with the VP of HR and Administration, will create and implement initiatives such as cultural awareness and competency training (as examples) and communicate the initiatives outward to the organization.

Final steps in CLM’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion plan will include measuring outcomes, communicating them outward and adjusting plans based on feedback.

Wellness – 5% of position

The Recruitment and Retention Manager will lead and drive CLM’s wellness initiatives to encourage staff to participate in programs that promote a healthy lifestyle and positive self-care. Working in concert with CLM’s EAP and the wellness team at CGI, the Recruitment and Retention Manager will create an annual calendar of wellness events that staff can participate in if they wish.

Demonstrates ability to work with the public utilizing exceptional customer service skills is required. The ability to handle sensitive personal and human resources information with the utmost confidentiality is required. The ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints is required. The ability to maintain open communication while promoting an atmosphere of cooperation and professionalism is required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This is a full-time, forty-hour per week position, though additional hours and evenings may be necessary occasionally. Some of the work will take place at CLM office locations and other periods of work will be remote. Work will include long periods of sitting, often in front of a computer or lap top, standing (occasionally at job or career fairs), talking on the phone, in meetings and over virtual methods of communication. Some lifting up to 15 pounds may be required.
