Job Summary

The Compensation Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the compensation program for UofL Health. Duties include developing, revising, and implementing compensation strategies, policies and procedures; conducting pay equity studies of hospital positions to determine market competitiveness; analyzing job descriptions for new positions to determine the appropriate pay grade as well as realigning existing positions; and overseeing the annual leader merit increase process. The position also serves as the Compensation Consultant for directors, managers, supervisors, and employees in the areas of wage and hour, FLSA, and policies and procedure. Other duties include developing and overseeing the annual recruitment budget as well as overseeing the readiness and compliance of the HR department in regards to Joint Commission regulations.

1. Manages and oversees all aspects of the compensation program.

2. Develops, revises and implements compensation strategies, policies and procedures. Develops competitive strategies to maintain market position. Proposes changes and conducts cost analyses.
3. Serves as the organization’s expert and educator on issues related to Wage and Hour law, FLSA, position description creation, and compensation policies and procedures.
4. Reviews all jobs and ranges within the facility on at least an annual basis and develops the annual market compensation proposal. Presents proposal to senior leadership. Communicates annual market adjustment results through meetings with department directors. Notifies all employees of market adjustment results.

5. Reviews and analyzes job descriptions for new positions to determine the appropriate pay grade as well as realigning existing positions.

6. Works with outside consultant to determine director and executive staff compensation.

7. Assumes responsibility for compensation program education of staff and managers.

8. Completes annual salary surveys. Researches local and regional salary surveys to provide hospital leaders with data to determine UofL Health's current position in the market.
9. Periodically reviews and revises the Compensation Manual.

10. Provides information to hospital managers, executives, HR staff, and outside accrediting and regulatory agencies by utilizing the hospital’s human resources information/payroll system and productivity management system to produce reports on a routine and ad hoc basis.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
• CCP or SPHR certification preferred


Experience (required and preferred):
• 5-10 years compensation management experience.
• Health care experience strongly preferred.
