The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, tenure-track/tenure Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position (depending on qualifications) in Marine Geology.

We seek to hire a sea-going marine geoscientist as a member of the faculty in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences who complements and expands current expertise within the Geology and Geophysics discipline group ( studying evolution and dynamics of ocean basins, plate tectonics, and/or Earth's mantle and mantle plumes.

The ideal applicant integrates their own field-generated data with additional information and techniques to understand processes relating to marine geology, including but not limited to, lithosphere formation and evolution, volcanology, authigenic sedimentary rock formation, rifting, intra-plate, large igneous province, arc volcanism, and/or ore development. Experience conducting hard rock sampling expeditions (dredging, drilling and/or ROV operations) are required. Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in oceanography, geology, earth sciences, or a related field, and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching.


The duties of this position in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences ( CEOAS ) include teaching, research, and service. Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the College. The incumbent will undertake research in the area of hard rock marine geology, with particular emphasis on petrology. The incumbent will teach classes in the fields of marine hard rock geology and related topics.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):

Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension positions and MLS for Library positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or other setting, and develop a research program in the academic discipline/unit.

This position may require the ability to work in laboratory environments, field environments, and at sea on research vessels for day trips or extended periods, dependent on research needs. Field environments and at-sea work may require working in rough terrain, inclement weather, and/or strenuous environments and conditions.

The ability to lift/carry/ push/pull objects weighing 25 pounds is required.

Travel is required as needed to advance research programs.
