Job description

The mission of Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) is to cultivate peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service and celebration. The Hands on Housing program is iACT’s oldest service program. iACT’s Hands on Housing provides housing repairs to low-income homeowners in the Austin area to ensure homes are safe and accessible in order for people to age in place in the homes and communities they know and love.

iACT is seeking a Hands on Housing Director to manage a home repair program for low-income, often elderly, homeowners. The director is in charge of oversight, planning, development and direction of the Hands on Housing program. This position is responsible for monitoring and managing all home repair projects to ensure client and funding requirements meet job specifications through professional and accurate communication with staff, contractors, sub-contractors, and collaborative partners. The Director will ensure satisfactory completion of projects within the determined scope, budget, and timeline, as well as the satisfaction of the clients we serve, adhering to city permitting and grant compliance. The Director supervises the Hands on Housing team and represents Hands on Housing at various community events and coalitions.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher

• At least 5-years experience managing programs and grants

• At least 2-years experience working with vulnerable communities

• 3-5 years Home repair/construction experience

• Ability to manage a diverse group of people calmly and respectfully

• Ability to maintain proper communication and documentation from contractors, subcontractors, and vendors .

• Manage client projects from start to finish, ensuring they meet all requirements for grant-funded programs.

• Ability to perform work outdoors at construction sites and local events. This may include movement such as standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting and reaching.• Proficiency in Google Docs, Excel and other frequently used software.

Duties include:

• Program and Project Management

• Ensure contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors are in compliance with grant funder requirements.

• Maintain contractor and project files.

• Review and authorize work orders and change orders to ensure that they meet both the needs of the homeowners and funder requirements.

• Keep track of project status and funding, and regularly provide updates to stakeholders.

• Manage client projects from start to finish, which may include but not limited to initial and post inspections; development of plans and specs, cost estimates, and bids for repair/remodel; contract awards; client/contractor meetings and communication; post inspection, before and after photos, and represent clients’ interest during construction phase.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify, write and submit funding proposals in support of program goals.

• Build a solid understanding of Central Texas Code Requirements.

Administrative

• Foster positive and collaborative relationships with the home repair team, internal program and administrative teams, and external entities in support of organizational goals and culture.

• Lead and support home repair teams to include ongoing performance management, immediate and effective coaching, establishment and measurement of key performance indicators, and development of staff into future leaders.

• Demonstrate cultural competence – awareness, attitude, knowledge, willingness, and skills to work effectively with diverse clients, employees, and vendors.

• Ensure internal/external controls are followed; supportive documentation is approved and readily available; and that all program transactions will pass independent and governmental audits.

• Evaluate home repair policies and procedures ensuring regulatory compliance, and immediately communicate any issues to the Executive Director.

• Attend training and certification courses as required for compliance.

• Support the policies and procedures of the organization.

• Present informative and accurate information in a clear, concise manner to varied audiences.

•Maintain a safe work environment in the office and in clients’ home.
