Job description

General Information

As part of the UT Southwestern Medical Center clinical team in Psychiatry, you will join in an evolving effort to push ahead of the traditional boundaries of medicine, deliver cures and transform patient care. In our growing downtown Dallas campus, we have psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, and many varied students advancing the development of neurotherapeutic interventions for challenging brain disorders, discovering advanced understanding of the causes of psychiatric illnesses and cures. At UT Southwestern, your ideas and skills will be put to work in ways that serve you, our patients, our community, and the world. Our 3,000+ UT Southwestern faculty foster teamwork and teach the skills that best reflect the changing landscape of therapeutics and health care delivery. Our research environment is one of the most advanced in the world, and the day-to-day quest for discovery will inspire your best work.

Profile

We are seeking an outstanding clinical or counseling psychologist to work in our William P. Clements Jr., University Hospital and Multispecialty Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. The position is primarily clinical, offering opportunities to deliver psychotherapy, assessment, and consultation services across varied clinical settings. This psychologist may have opportunity to provide some services on the Inpatient Psychiatry unit but will primarily split their time providing psychologist-appropriate consult/liaison coverage for the rest of the hospital’s medical patients as well as psychotherapy in the outpatient setting.

Psychiatric complications of medical comorbidities are common in our patients given the level of complex specialty-level care common in our system. We are seeking a clinician capable of providing therapy, evaluation, and consultative support across a spectrum of psychiatric and medical complexity and care settings. Highly competitive candidates will have experience in health psychology, referencing and utilizing evidence-based therapies, integrated behavioral health, and/or hospital psychology.

The position includes opportunities for supervision of psychology interns, psychiatry residents, pre- and post-doctoral trainees, and participation in the overall academic mission of the department. Involvement in research is encouraged, and many opportunities exist for collaborative research and involvement in our APA accredited doctoral and internship programs in Clinical Psychology.

Eligible candidates must hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program and have completed an APA-accredited internship. While Texas licensure is not required for consideration or selection, it is a pre-requisite for starting in the position. It is expected that the incumbent will seek board certification relatively soon after their appointment. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
