Job description

Chesterton Academy of St. George, an independent high school in the Catholic tradition, seeks a talented and dynamic part time drama and debate teacher to join our team starting in the 2024-25 academic year. The Drama and Debate course at Chesterton is a key component of the integrated curriculum. Through the production of plays, students learn to explore the richness of the human experience while at the same time developing the important skill of public speaking. Furthermore, through Debate class, students are instructed to a greater degree on how to listen to the viewpoints of others and analyze them for their logical consistency and adherence to the truth. This position would include teaching drama class for the first half of the semester, with the goal of producing a play in mid-November, followed by debate class for the remainder of the semester. As a part time position, our schedule would work around the availability of the ideal candidate. A candidate should possess either a degree in Literature or have experience in producing plays. The candidate must be a practicing Catholic and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academy participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to participate in the spiritual life of the school to the greatest degree possible for a part time teacher.
