Qualifications


**Bachelor’s degree; valid driver’s license; working towards obtaining the required semester hours of surveying courses that meets the NCEES Surveying Education Standard as approved by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors.
OR
Accepted for Fundamental of Surveying examination (F.S) by Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors; valid driver’s license.

**Employees with undergraduate degree in non-surveying field of study, must complete the required 30 semester hours of
surveying courses that meets the NCEES Surveying Education Standard, with a limit of 6 hours of required surveying
courses in GIS. At least 6 semester hours must be completed during probationary period. Examples of surveying courses include basic
surveying, route surveying, geodesy, geographic information systems, land development design and planning, global positioning systems, photogrammetry, mapping, legal principles of land surveying, boundary law, professional surveying and mapping, and remote sensing



Job Skills: Engineering


Knowledge of professional surveying; employee training & development*; OSHA & agency safety practices*.

Skill in: operation & maintenance of survey instruments (e.g., total stations, GPS receivers, digital levels, 3-D laser scanners & data collectors); operation of state vehicles (e.g., trucks, vans); operation of hand tools & small equipment (e.g., machete, brush hook, posthole digger, sledgehammer, spud bar, jackhammer, power auger); use of computer, electronic data processing software (e.g., CADD, COGO, GPS, GIS) & word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Ability to: define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; use geometry & trigonometry; use proper research methods in gathering data; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; lift up to 50 lbs. of equipment.

All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one year probationary period.

This position is overtime eligible per FLSA Standards.
