The Facilities Technician provides general maintenance support to research and general building stock that may include replacing and adjusting lighting; controlling building temperature; storing, monitoring and transferring equipment, furniture and fixtures; and repairing general plumbing, carpentry and electrical problems.

Maintenance Repair Activities: Performs general preventive or corrective maintenance tasks pertaining to building maintenance, including changing HVAC filters, changing fan belts, checking motor timing, testing control systems, Intermediate knowledge of hand tools and shop tools, fabricates parts, can work independently, knowledge of plumbing, mechanical, HVAC systems and components. Variety of maintenance skill sets. Maintains and repairs shop tools and equipment. Can run a snake to unclog drains. Has the ability to read and interpret blue prints, OEM’s. Trains the Assistant Facilities Technicians and assists the Senior Facilities Technicians in maintaining and repairing of building mechanical equipment.

 

Team Oriented Activities: Work cooperatively and coordinate work with Facilities Supervisor and other OHSU employees to assure efficient and reliable service.

 

Lighting Maintenance: Replaces incandescent, fluorescent, and HID lamps; cleans light fixtures and luminaires; uses ladders, extension ladders and lifts, as required. Coordinates with electrician or qualified lighting technician when required.

 

Plumbing Activities: Makes simple repairs on old plumbing such as renewing washers and valves; cleaning and opening drains and other water lines. Assists licensed plumbers in installing new plumbing including pipes, drains, tubs, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment.


System Troubleshooting: Interprets system drawings, schematics and manuals to troubleshoot and optimize system operation. Understands system isolation mechanisms. Determines system or equipment problems and engage appropriate specialists (e.g. Building Automation System or Fire Alarm Technicians, Electricians) to resolve the problem.

 

Contractor Support: Works with contractors to facilitate badging and key request processes; escort them through buildings; fully understand building impacts from proposed work; and understand and communicate building system shutdowns and impairments. Participate in system commissioning process at the end of new system installation. Receive training on new systems and pass information to other team members as needed.

 

Carpentry Activities: Assists in general maintenance and construction work of a simple nature such as installing shelving, hanging doors (other than specialty construction), framing walls. Requires the use of simple power tools such as drills, saws, and planes.


Painting Activities: Assists in cleaning surfaces to be painted using scrapers and dusters; performs small drywall patching; applies previously mixed paints to surfaces such as walls, beams, and girders; mixes and applies plaster.


Abide by all State, local and OHSU vehicle parking regulations while operating any OHSU or leased vehicle.


Perform other maintenance related tas ks as assigned.

Salary Range: $26.13 - $35.33 per hour
