The Quality Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of quality procedures and the use of tools for inspection and approval of new products development samples, outsourced products, and in-house assemblies and machining, ensuring all products that leave our facility meet all quality standards with zero defects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the production department’s Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, and external (ex: ISO9001, IATF16949) and regulatory requirements. Keeps document system updated and conforming to ISO 9001 Quality System. Perform internal ISO/IATF 16949 audits.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve quality procedures, standards, and methods for inspection, testing and evaluations.
- Use and train others in the use of inspection tools: CMM (creating new programs when needed), hardness tester, calipers, micrometers, and other tools per procedures.
- Responsible for inventory management of parts in hold for evaluation, hold for repair, and warranty evaluations.
- Work with the engineering team on new product development through the APQP stages. Help review supplier PPAP documentation and inspect samples. Review and approve new packaging standard for quality prior to first shipment.
- Responsible for creating PFMEAs, process flow diagrams and control plans for the clients assembly and machining processes.
- Request and follow up SCARs (Supplier Corrective Action Requests).
- Evaluate warranty requests and customer complaints. Conduct root cause analysis of customer complaints and communicate findings to relevant parties using evaluation reports and 8D reports. Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of customer complaints.
- Responsible for inspection tools management to include procurement, repeatability and reproducibility and calibration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, evidence of experience and exceptional ability, or equivalent
Background and Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience as a Quality Engineer
- Previous automotive or mobile hydraulics experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong technical writing ability and an ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner.
- Knowledge and experience delivering ISO standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 requirements and its quality tools (FMEA, SPC, PPAP, APQP, MSA, 8D).
- Experience in QMS management.
- Experience with PPAP, Control Plans, Corrective Action, DFMEA, PFMEA, Process Flow, Root-cause analysis, corrective actions, 8D methodology.
- Knowledge and experience on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) inspection.
- Experience in the use and programing of CMM machines.
- Mechanical aptitude and organizational skills.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to lift 70 lbs.
