Job Summary
Sanofi has an established and growing US General Medicines business and is actively seeking a dynamic, bold, and innovative communications professional to take on the role of Head of General Medicines US Communications. This position is not just about communication; it's about driving strategic communication initiatives that play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's narrative in General Medicines. We are looking for an individual with a high level of energy, motivation, and a proactive approach to lead communication efforts, internally and externally, for the US General Medicines portfolio. Reporting to the Head, US Communications, this position is based in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
This role will directly support the North America head of the General Medicines business and lead the product communications team supporting the cardiometabolic, transplant and type 1 diabetes franchise teams. The role has two direct reports. Additionally, this position will be responsible for issues management and reputation for US General Medicines and will collaborate closely across the U.S. Corporate Affairs organization.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- As a member of the U.S. General Medicines Leadership Team, provides strategic communications input and counsel for the U.S. General Medicines business.
- Manages internal communications to inform U.S. General Medicines organization, encourage employee engagement and increase awareness of key initiatives/business updates while recognizing Play to Win behaviors to enhance the culture of the organization.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to strengthen the General Medicines branding, patient centric engagement, culture and employee experience.
- Leads the communication support strategy for organizational updates, changes, and change management initiatives.
- Identifies and oversees how to enhance the use of digital and social media platforms to further achieve the General Medicines priorities, leveraging corporate and leaders’ social media channels and platforms for thought leadership content, sharing business/product news.
- Understanding and awareness of the competitive market in the pharmaceutical industry, understanding how other companies engage and communicate with employees and stakeholders.
- Lead the strategy, development and implementation of impactful product communications programs across Transplant, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular, including disease awareness programs, branded communication activities, data and regulatory milestones, and digital communications.
- Manages issues associated with products in U.S. General Medicines portfolio to protect the company and brand reputation.
- Collaborates with key internal stakeholders including other U.S. and Global Communications colleagues, Medical, Legal, Regulatory, Media Relations, Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs partners including Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy and Government Relations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong ability to work effectively across functions and levels and business units; proven collaborator.
- Demonstrate experience leading communications change management and organizational changes.
- Ability to counsel and interface successfully with senior executives, communications peers, and across a co-promote program.
- Understanding of how to effectively use communications to influence audiences.
- Ability to research, develop, deliver and measure communications strategies and plans with a goal of showcasing communications successes to internal and external audiences.
- Expertise in communications concepts, practices, strategies and tactics based on understanding of key audiences and corporate objectives.
- Strong understanding of media relations and corporate affairs industry topics.
- Proactive, self-starter and able to work independently and in team environment.
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills and the ability to interact with confidence with various levels and functions.
- Proven experience in a co-promote/co-development situation within the pharmaceutical industry.
- People management experience preferred, but not required
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration or Journalism
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Excellent collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills; demonstrated ability to work with senior leaders
- Strong issues management capabilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Pharmaceutical product PR communications background
- Experience in internal and external communications
- Ability to collaborate in a heavy matrix environment
- 10-15 years of corporate communications experience in the pharmaceutical area
