Job description
The Saint John Paul II Academy, a new Catholic, classical school in the growing Kansas City suburb of Olathe, seeks its founding Head of School for the 2024-25 school year. After years of planning and praying, the Parish has secured the funding and the facility needed to launch an exciting and highly-desirable Pre-K - 8th grade classical, liberal arts model of Catholic formation and education-one that leads students to freedom in Christ. With a distinctive approach to Catholic education in the fast-growing suburban area, the Academy will focus in 2024-25 on articulating and promoting its mission and vision to prospective families, designing the curriculum and co-curricular programs, hiring the founding faculty and staff, and admitting the inaugural classes of students in the primary grades. Through the generosity of this recently-founded and growing Parish, a former school building has been purchased and a team of architects have been hired to prepare this 17,000 square foot facility to welcome students in the Fall of 2025. The Academy will occupy this space for a temporary period while the Parish breaks ground on a 23-acre parcel across from its current and transitional campus. At the Academy, the students will receive a unified vision of reality through a uniquely integrated curriculum, in which academic disciplines are interwoven to illuminate God's providential design for human history and the wisdom present in all aspects of creation. To preserve contact with reality, the Academy will provide a hands-on, observational approach to the natural sciences. Music, art, and drama will be an integral part of the curriculum. At the Academy, students will be formed not only in intellectual virtues, but also in the moral and theological virtues that equip them to love God and neighbor with attentiveness and joy. They will learn their identity as children of God and understand they have a unique mission to fulfill in God's plan for the salvation of the world. Above all, the Academy will seek to foster an apostolic community of friendship in Christ, the only source of true freedom. Students will be nourished by the treasures of the Catholic Church, through the Catholic intellectual tradition as well as the spiritual practices of Mass, Confession, and a daily rhythm of prayer. The founding Head of School will be expected to embody this educational ethos and provide strong leadership internally and externally as the school positions itself for a successful launch.
