Essential Functions And Purpose

Supports production and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment. Performs activities in a variety of cross-functional areas including production, planning and control, total quality management, systems, manufacturing, material management, and process reengineering. The incumbent may facilitate self-directed work teams, provide training “core skill” areas to team and peers, and interact with internal and external customers with respect to product planning, problem resolution, and process improvement.

POSITION DEMANDS

This Position Requires The Following Minimum Qualifications

Requires ability to physically commute to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of climbing ladders and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must maintain mental alertness and all safety requirements, particularly when transiting in production areas. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 25% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is usually low to moderate in office environments and moderate to noisy in production environments 70% of the time. Production noise may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Works primarily in a teamed environment and under the guidance and supervision of senior department staff. Assists project teams with the evaluation, selection and application of engineering techniques and principles. Prepares progress and status reports and work is periodically reviewed by the Manager of Industrial Engineering.

Principal Responsibilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Work at heights; position requires the ability to walk on scaffolding and work at heights aboard vessels under construction or repair. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 25% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Results are related to the quality and timeliness of achieving project goals as well as indicated by comparison of actual to planned production performance improvements.

PAY SCALE

Industrial Engineer $73,500 - $95,200

Industrial Engineer II $84,700 - $109,600

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
