Job description

We seek candidates with a commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching major and non-major students in an undergraduate liberal arts context, with intellectual curiosity to build new connections across Colgate’s vibrant academic and cultural community, and scholarly and teaching interests that complement those of the current faculty. The candidate will join the Music Department as we embark on a revised undergraduate curriculum that offers enhanced flexibility and individualized focus and embraces stylistic diversity while maintaining a strong foundation in analysis, historical-cultural study, creation, and practice.

The successful candidate will teach our introductory course, The Musical Experience, as well as direct the Colgate Chamber Players, an ensemble that has traditionally been open to a range of instruments and a diversity of skill levels and repertoires. Other courses will be determined by the candidate's area of specialization, with the possibility of a new course in that area. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching areas show promise for building interdisciplinary connections across Colgate’s campus, including fields such as Africana and Latin American Studies, Women’s Studies, LGBTQ Studies, languages, theater, dance, film, visual arts, Writing and Rhetoric, and cognition. The successful candidate may be exptected to participarte in all-university programs, including the  Liberal Arts Core Curriculum .

The teaching load is the equivalent of five courses for the academic year, consisting of one course and ensemble directing in the fall semester and two courses and ensemble directing in the spring semester. Salary Range or Pay Grade

$68,900 (for pre-DMA candidates) to $72,900 (for candidate with DMA in hand)
