Title: Equity and Inclusion Program Manager

Position Purpose:

The Program Manager will be an integral member of the Office of Equity and Inclusion as we work to promote a welcoming and inclusive culture at Bates where all members of our campus community can thrive in their individual and collective pursuits. They will serve as a knowledgeable advocate and institutional resource, partnering across campus to conceptualize, implement, and evaluate programs that educate the Bates community to advance equity throughout our programs, policies and practices.

At Bates, we are guided by our mission to “engage the transformative power of our differences, cultivating intellectual discovery and informed civic action.” There are many partners throughout the college working to advance the Bates mission by promoting and implementing programs that increase access, foster a pluralistic community, and promote equitable outcomes. This role would have the opportunity to meet regularly with this team of colleagues, convened by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, to share best practices and support one another in the work to advance equity and inclusion at Bates.

Job Duties:

Collaborating with campus partners within the offices of Intercultural Education, Purposeful Work, Accessible Education, Residence Life and Housing, Campus Life, Title IX, Human Resources, Athletics and academic departments to identify, design and implement new learning opportunities - training, workshops, and events that promote equity and inclusion at Bates.

Delivering existing active ally training to faculty and staff across campus.

Creating and leading workshops focused on inclusive hiring practices.

Establishing relationships with outside organizations that provide equity and inclusion services for varying departments to utilize for additional training or consultation related to equity and inclusion.

Inspiring and empowering participants through adult learning pedagogies that include interactive engagement using a variety of teaching and facilitation tools, and practical action steps that can be taken after attending any training or workshop.

Supporting the VPEI to research, develop, and recommend creative strategies to foster the college's equity and inclusion goals.

Staffing committees, teams and workgroups as assigned representing the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Additional Qualifications:

Experience in developing, facilitating, and organizing diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.

Excellent interpersonal communications and effective writing, organizational and analytical skills.

Strong curriculum development abilities utilizing evidence based practices to advance equity, inclusion and antiracism.

Experience working effectively to enhance racial and social equity.

Effective collaboration skills and be responsive to faculty, staff, and student needs and diverse perspectives.

Demonstrated work principles such as initiative, innovativeness, attention to detail and a focus on results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

A bachelor's degree is required, and an advanced degree is preferred. 

Experience

Candidates should have expertise in a relevant academic field and experience with curricular development and teaching or training.

A strong candidate would have experience in higher education administration with a focus on equity and inclusion.

Skills and Knowledge

Commitment to serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.

Experience in developing, facilitating, and organizing diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.

Excellent interpersonal communications and effective writing, organizational and analytical skills.

Strong curriculum development abilities utilizing evidence based practices to advance equity, inclusion and antiracism.

Experience working effectively to enhance racial and social equity.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
