Position Qualification

Position Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to investigate cell surface glycoproteins and glycans within the context of cardiovascular development and disease, including stem cell differentiation and advanced heart failure. The Postdoc will have the opportunity to develop strong biological research skills, including mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, biochemical assays, and molecular biology. Training in advanced analytical skills will include mass spectrometry analysis of glycoproteins and glycans and development and integration of automated sample handling workflows and custom bioinformatics tools.

Responsibilities:

* Conduct research related to cell surface glycoprotein signaling in stem cell differentiation and cardiac disease.
* Design and execute experiments related to discovery and validation of cell-type specific targets.
* Independently drive research projects and participate in collaborative projects between our laboratory and other academic and industrial partners.
* Act as a leader from the bench, driving research programs, strategies, and ideas to completion.
* Attend scientific conferences and present results as talks and posters.
* Summarize relevant research findings in publications.

Required Qualifications

* PhD in a relevant area of cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, developmental biology.
* Mammalian cell culture

Supplemental Qualifications

* Experience in mass spectrometry based analyses of proteins, glycoproteins, or glycans
* Strongly self-motivated, independent, and ambitious scientist with critical thinking ability.
* Very strong organizational and communication skills, creativity in methodological development, and understanding of basic experimental design and statistical analyses.
* Experience in immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular biology, stem cell culture
* Experience in functional assessments of cardiac cells, including electrophysiology and calcium handling
