Title: Director of Annual Giving

Reports To : Asst. Head for Community Relations and Director of Development

Classification : Exempt-Full Time, July 1, 2024

Status : Professional Full-Year Staff

Marin Country Day School is looking for a development team member with excellent social skills who displays strong cultural competence, is flexible, positive, adaptable, adept at customer service, maintains calm under pressure, and is an excellent team player. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of three years of applicable work experience, excellent verbal and written communication skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic office and school environment. Experience with children, parents, volunteers, and independent school culture is a bonus.

MCDS School is an independent, K-8, co-educational day school enrolling approximately 600 students from across the Bay area, drawing equally from San Francisco and Marin.

Position Description: Develops overall strategy and interface with major campaigns and major gift efforts. For each constituent group, develop goals and strategies, oversee the development of design concepts and content of solicitation brochures, and manage their production. Draft solicitation letters, e-mail communications to the community, individual follow-up letters, acknowledgments, etc. Recruits and partners with volunteers.Manages all aspects of the Annual Fund for current parents, grandparents, friends/former parents, alumni, and faculty/staff to maximize dollars and participation.

Principle Responsibilities:

Annual Giving:

● Establishes targets and strategically assigns calls

● Solicits specific Annual Fund gifts

● Supervises the production of support materials for annual fund committee; organizes kickoff events

● Recruits and manages annual fund volunteer solicitors and plans committee recognition

● Analyzes data to create monthly Annual Fund reports for the Board of Trustees

● Produces solicitation materials, drafts solicitation, and acknowledgment letters

● Maintains/updates website pages for Annual Giving and partners with the Director of Development in the overall look and feel of our“Support MCDS” section of the website.

● Partners with the Events and Database Manager in gift/pledge processing/entry for the Annual Fund.

● Oversees the pledge reminder process

● Partners with the Director of Development to prepare speakers, materials, and agendas for summer parent orientations

● Recruits and manages grandparents committee members; partners with the Director of Development and Director of Special Advancement Projects on grandparent cultivation

● Conducts the annual Faculty/Staff Fund with faculty and staff representatives for maximum participation.

○ Recruits representatives to run the appeal

○ Provides marketing and messaging materials to support the effort

○ Celebrates and provides recognition materials Manages and grows our Alumni participation in Annual Giving, plus identifies and develops cultivation strategies for alumni capable of leadership support.

● Partners with the Associate Director of Development for Events and Alumni Relations on alumni giving and researching different approaches

● Supports the Associate Director of Development for Events and Alumni Relations in implementing ways to involve alums in the life of the school with the goal of increasing alumni visibility and direct contact with students and teachers.

General Development:

● Conducts prospect research activities in conjunction with annual giving and restricted gifts initiatives.

● Serves on Board of Trustees Committees as assigned.

● Participates in other Development Office activities, including goal setting, calendar planning, volunteer identification and development, donor research, donor relations, cultivation and stewardship activities, proofreading, database updates, etc.

● Collaborates with the Director of Development on producing the Annual Report, including proofreading and design.

● Assisting with fundraising and cultivation events, as needed.

● Educates self on the school’s philosophy and programs; stays informed regarding regulations and legislation regarding fundraising and reporting standards.

Qualifications :

● B.A. or B.S degree preferred, but not required

● Experience working in a Development office

● Experience with databases), PC & Mac operating systems, Google Docs, Gmail, and Microsoft Office programs

● Duties may require occasional lifting of a minimum of 50 pounds.

● Must be available some evenings and weekends

Salary range is $75,000-$85,000 DOE
