Job Details
- Shift: one to three hours of late evening weeknight work to conduct one blood draw at 10:30pm and/or one blood draw between 1:00a-6:45a
- Work Location: Onsite; Palo Alto, CA
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet patients and explain the blood collection process to alleviate any concerns or fears.
- Verify patient identity and ensure accurate patient information.
- Perform venipuncture (drawing blood from veins) using sterile techniques.
- Select appropriate veins and use various methods, such as straight needles, butterfly needles, or syringes, depending on the patients age, health, and the purpose of the blood draw.
- Properly label collected blood samples with patient information, date, and time.
- Ensure accurate and traceable sample identification.
- Safely transport blood samples to the laboratory for processing.
- Follow protocols for handling, storing, and transporting specimens to maintain sample integrity.
- Enter patient and specimen information into computer systems accurately.
- Maintain organized and complete records of collected samples.
- Perform routine maintenance on phlebotomy equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and laboratory staff.
