General Information About The Job:
Lays building materials, including concrete and brick, and constructs or repairs masonry surfaces or structures.
Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work
Lays blocks or bricks following blueprints, plans, or drawings
Lays out work using chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares, and levels
Mixes cement using hoes, cement-mixing equipment, and/or hand tools
Has knowledge and ability to use brick ruler
Cuts or breaks bricks and concrete using hammers, powered abrasive saws, paving breakers, drills, and/or hand tools
Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
Performs finish masonry work, installs mixes mortar, parges block or brick work
Erects staging or scaffolding if the job requires
Screens sand, mixing it with cement and water to obtain consistency necessary
Installs all work plumb and level
Erects wooden or metal supports to hold repair in place during setting time
Erects story poles for correct wall layout
Smooths mortar and removes excess material with trowel
Must be dependable and reliable, follow direction, perform some layout, and have knowledge in standard masonry practices
Requirements:
Dependable, reliable, fulfills responsibilities.
Physical activity using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing and hard hats when needed.
Working in various weather conditions
Qualifications:
Minimum of one to three years’ experience of general masonry.
Must have own basic masonry tools.
Must be able to travel to various job site locations.
Must be able to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders, lift and carry objects weighing up-to 80 pounds.
Experience working on historic properties is helpful.
