Job description


The USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding applicant for a Healthcare Navigator, also known as a Patient Navigator, who will serve as a liaison between patients and physicians, facilitating clinical services. This position will work directly with physicians, patients, and other USC care teams to implement processes at USC that promote the highest standards of patient satisfaction, patient throughput, program development, and outreach strategy.

Candidates for this position are encouraged to have excellent communication and leadership skills and a background in clinical pathways and patient advocacy. Responsibilities include meeting with the providers to discuss patient care cases and methods to improve clinical coordination pathways, patient throughput, patient and family education, marketing and strategy campaigns, and leading efforts to improve the reach of the service area. This position provides support and guidance to new patients (e.g., communicating required information before first appointments), develops resources, activities, and events to improve the patient care experience, and assists with building rapport with physicians and referral clinicians.

The role may start off as full-time in the office while training. After training is completed, the role will become a hybrid position and will require being in the office at least 2 times per week.

The hourly rate range for this position is $35.77 - $41.25. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Additional Education Requirements Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Skills: Experience providing medical/clinical guidance. Advanced judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision. Data gathering and analysis skills. Excellent time management skills. Demonstrated interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving skills. Experience in customer service. Practiced use of discretion and decision-making ability. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to build and maintain deep and meaningful relationships with community members and outside agencies. Preferred Education: Related undergraduate study And Specialized/technical training Preferred Certifications: BLS/CPR Certifications in CPR, basic life support and/or mental health first aid. Preferred Experience: 2 years Preferred Skills: Demonstrated experience in community healthcare and/or street medicine. A current understanding and appreciation of the cultural vibrancy and historical significance of local communities in Los Angeles and Southern California. Extensive knowledge and/or understanding of numerous cultural issues (e.g., immigration, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+). Fluent in one or more languages in addition to English (e.g., Spanish, Korean, American Sign Language).
