Job description

Addison Group Los Angeles, in partnership with our construction-oriented client in the East San Fernando Valley, seeks a Controller. The hired Controller will be hands-on with day-to-day finance and accounting duties. The client will consider Accounting Managers who are ready to make the next step in his/her career.

Job – The Controller will perform all day-to-day accounting functions, prepare financial reports, prepare annual budgets, assist in audits, and be engaged in an ERP upgrade. The Controller will report directly to the CEO.

Job Site Status (Remote/Hybrid/Onsite) – Our client has an onsite work policy, albeit with flex start times

Culture/Environment – You will join a company that has a family-run feel to it (i.e., easy access to the decision makers). Employees at our client stay for a long tenure period. Everyone picks up for each other; no task is beneath anyone.

Compensation – Salary range is $130,000-$150,000/year. Our client supplements base compensation with a bonus and typical health, dental, and vision insurance plans.

CONTROLLER DUTIES

Construction Accounting

· Analyze Work in Progress (WIP) Reports to analyze the following figures:

- Contract Price

- Billed to date

- Cost to date

- Estimated Costs

- Project Status

- Revenue Left in Project

· Review and approve subcontractors

· Initiate construction draws to ensure continuous progress on a project

General Ledger (G/L) Accounting

· Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end closes (M/E, Q/E, and Y/E)

· Reconcile numerous accounts (bank, checking, credit card)

· Prepare monthly financial reports after closing of the accounting books

· Prepare income statement, including expense for the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

· Supervise Accounts Payable operations (bill payments via check or wire, vendor management, and answer vendor questions), in conjunction with an A/P clerk

· Perform Accounts Receivable (A/R) duties such as applying payments, monitoring aged trial balances

· Document and critique day-to-day accounting processes

· Train any new hires in the Accounting Operations department

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and Financial Reporting

· Analyze and present financial analysis (account for actual v. budgeted variances on each line item)

· Prepare and review financial data for Financial Statement preparation

Internal Controls

· Assist in internal controls tasks

· Work with external auditors on a periodic basis

Miscellaneous

· Maintain banking relationships

· Accept various other duties as needed

CONTROLLER QUALIFICATIONS

Required

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Finance

· At least five (5) years of substantive accounting experience

· Construction industry experience

Preferred

· A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

· Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel
