The Lawrence Hall of Science is The University of California, Berkeley's public science center. Our mission is to inspire and engage through science discovery and learning in ways that advance equity and opportunity. Since founding in 1968, The Lawrence has been at the forefront of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning. The Lawrence is unique among science centers as it is a Learning Lab. We design, develop, and study a wide array of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning programs and products for youth, families, and adults from diverse backgrounds in our specialized facilities and through our community partnerships. Our spaces and partnerships offer unique opportunities for public engagement and learning, curriculum and instructional materials design, professional learning, and research on learning, instruction, and pathways toward STEM careers. We disseminate and scale up our effective and innovative learning programs and materials in ways that broaden participation in STEM and have local, national, and global impact.

Responsibilities
The position supports The Lawrence Hall of Science Director and Leadership Teams through project management, coordination of policy, implementation, and communication; organizational decision-making; and overseeing the Director's office operations. The Incumbent supports developing new programs, policies, or procedures for implementation. Ensures projects are completed within the time and budget set by the Director's office and Organizational Leadership and to the correct specifications. The incumbent primarily deals with policies, programs, and proposals that are complex and diverse in scope. The position will manage the day-today operations of the Director's office, including internal and external communication. The Incumbent is a seasoned, experienced professional with a complete understanding of analytical practices, policies, and procedures; researches analyzes, and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. The incumbent demonstrates sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, centers equity, and strives to promote belonging in their approach to every aspect of this position. The position reports to the Director of The Lawrence Hall of Science.
Executive/Leadership Support and Project Management - Ensures the Director's office runs smoothly by overseeing day-to-day operations; coordinating initiatives and assignments; coordinating staff that support the Director's office if needed; arranging logistics and processing reimbursements for Director's travel and business/donor cultivation meetings and events, and developing and implementing efficient and effective systems for managing information, projects, and communications to ensure accurate and timely responses within a highly bureaucratic context. Supports Lawrence's Leadership Teams' activities as needed, including follow-up activities and project management (developing, implementing, and monitoring scopes of work, budgets, and reports for project requirements).
Communication - Oversees communication for the Director's office for internal (e.g., allstaff meetings and retreats) and external (e.g., campus, governing bodies) audiences, including strategies for sharing and enforcing new policies and procedures. Responds to inquiries from faculty, staff, students, and the public regarding operations, policies, and procedures on behalf of the Director. Makes high-level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally, requiring discretion and diplomacy.
Troubleshooting and Gatekeeping - Troubleshoots various organizational challenges, including overcoming bureaucratic obstacles to accomplish organizational goals. Supports the Director by understanding the requirements of the Director and Leadership Teams; prioritizing issues/priorities according to urgency; allocating time for scheduled events, travel, and meetings; and managing the Director's calendar in partnership with the Director.
Stakeholder Coordination - Organizes committees appointed by the Director and Leadership teams on various issues. Acts as staff liaison to Lawrence advisory bodies, including overseeing communications, facilitating activities, and managing special projects. Plans and implements stakeholder meetings and events.
Information Gathering, Analysis, Writing, Presentation, and Communication - Researches, compiles, analyzes, summarizes, and monitors relevant issues, policies, practices, and research; provides background information. Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents to collect and exchange data. Provides analyses for complex budget, financial, academic, data, systems, and resource projects, working directly with all levels of managers. Researches and drafts talking points, complex memos, proposals, reports, briefings, slide decks, executive summaries, and speeches on behalf of the Director and Lawrence Executive leaders.
Policy/Process Analysis, Implementation, and Support - Investigate issues and problems; draft and prepare responses to urgent requests. Performs ad hoc analytical studies on a wide variety of complex policies, programs, and issues. Supports strategy development for organizational priorities and initiatives. Coordinates implementation of new policies, practices, and projects with cross-organizational departments or external entities as needed.

Education and Training
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior knowledge of relevant campus policies and procedures.
- Master's or other advanced degree in related field.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,100 - $111,050 annually
