Basic Immunology Branch

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The Basic Immunology Branch (BIB) in the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT), NIAID, seeks exceptional candidates to serve as health scientist administrators (program officers).

BIB plans and manages a broad portfolio of solicited grant and contract programs and investigator-initiated grants, focused on basic and translational research in the characterization/understanding of the properties, developmental pathways, interactions, and functions of cells of the innate and adaptive immune systems; their role in protection against infectious diseases or triggered by vaccines; contributions of innate and adaptive immune cells to infection-induced pathogenesis; and vaccine adjuvant discovery and early-stage development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding, planning, advising/directing, and evaluating a portfolio of research projects, research programs, and other grants, cooperative agreements, and/or contracts in their assigned program areas. Incumbents will have overall programmatic responsibility for assigned program area(s) and be the primary liaison and point of contact for all interactions within and outside NIH in these immunologic research areas.
