Job description

Position Summary:

Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick NJ is seeking a full-time Associate Surgeon. The successful candidate will join an established group of nationally-known surgeons. Our current staff of 4 cardiac surgeons performs approximately 1700 cardiac surgical procedures annually—with explosive growth over the last 2 years.
This position supports the work of the primary surgeons, procurement coverage, and acute care needs. The appointee will participate in the full spectrum of cardiac surgical practice. In addition, the appointee will have the opportunity to acquire skills in advanced techniques including minimally-invasive valve surgery and valve repair; aortic surgery; transplantation and mechanical support; robotics; and catheter-based approaches to aortic disease and valvular repair/replacement. RWJMS is an international leader in minimally-invasive valve surgery, transcatheter valvular procedures, and mechanical support, and earned 3- STS stars for both CABG and AVR .
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Jersey, and 3) have completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in CT Surgery. The candidate would be expected to meet requirements for an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery and will be compensated commensurately.
This practice will be exclusively based at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ( RWJUH ). RWJUH is the primary teaching hospital for Rutgers RWJMS . RWJUH is the premier academic medical center in New Jersey serving a catchment of more than 5 million people. Its Centers of Excellence include cardiovascular care from minimally invasive heart surgery to transplantation, cancer care, stroke care, neuroscience, orthopedics, and women's and children's care, including The Bristol‐Myers Squibb Children's Hospital ( BMSCH ), Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey ( CINJ ), and a Level 1 Trauma Center. In May 2019, a new state-of-the-art 24-bed CTICU was opened, and construction will soon begin on a $150M renovation to the existing OR complex with the addition of 6 new OR suites, as well as new $1B Cancer Center.
