Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the related field.

Preferred: BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the related field.

Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position


Work directly with Department Chair of Computer Systems Technology and faculty in the following areas:
1) Set up teaching labs and maintain computer labs and departmental office computers, which includes maintenance and upgrades of computes software, computer networks, and supervision of students in the cleaning and management of labs.

2) Collaborate with other teams and divisions to support department IT needs.
3) Provide technical support to teaching and research labs and maintain lab instruments. Ensure all hardware and software are in working order.
4) Purchase and maintain software licenses.
5) Keep inventory of all lab equipment and licenses.

6) Provide technical support to lab users.

7) Document lab configurations, procedures, user guides, and safety protocols.

8) Maintain or upgrade department webpages.

9) Assist with other departmental needs.

10) Assist with College needs when requested.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit


North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.

The Department of Computer Systems Technology enrolls over 481 undergraduate and graduate majors. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, both accredited by ABET, a Master of Science in Information Technology which is consistently ranked amongst the largest graduate programs on campus, and an Information Technology concentration under the collage Applied Science Technology PhD Program. CST is a growing department and currently consists of 10 full-time faculty

Work Hours
8:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday

Duties


Provides technical support in planning, implementation, and ongoing operations of lab services. Implements procedures, or methodologies developed by others.
Resolves software issues for standard office products including MS Office, and other software installed in labs and offices.
Maintains preventive maintenance schedules for equipment in computer lab, teaching and research labs.
Creates and deploys software configurations to instructional computers in computer labs and offices.
Provides software application support to department faculty and staff.
Monitors physical security of assigned department assets, observes user activities and facility utilization shifts, provides materials, training, and assistance as needed.
Reports technical problems, which need to be addressed by improved policies or procedures.
Assists with College software / hardware needs when requested.

Determines appropriate technical area or vendor to resolve problems.
Participates in installations, upgrades, configurations and moves.
Utilizes on-line help system to initiate and document all service requests and deliveries.
Researches and provides technical solutions where applicable to computer and lab equipment problems.
Performs trouble-shooting to diagnose system problems; analyzes hardware and software functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and Repairs problems within scope of authority; documents call records and results.

Performs routine and non-routine diagnostics and maintenance.
Assists with testing of new equipment, new releases of software, vendor modifications, upgrades and patches.
Resolves routine and non-routine issues /problems for supported systems.
Installs/configures hardware and software.
Coordinates, assesses, performs preventative maintenance and implementation of equipment, computer, hardware/software assisting with design, coding and debugging of operating software.
Resolves incident tickets and researches new technologies implemented.
Uses available system monitoring tools to improve efficiency of systems.
Communicates with vendors and/or higher level technical staff to resolve technical issues.
Documents non-routine procedures/workarounds/solutions.
Provides input into plans for updates and enhancements that will not interrupt system usage.
Communicates complicated technical issues into understandable terminology when communicating with users.
Participates as team member or technical lead on small and/or large projects as assigned.
Assists faculty and staff in determining the correct hardware/software technologies.
Maintains and updates workstations, equipment, and peripherals; researches and tests new equipment and software; installs instrument, computers, and software upgrades and enhancements.

Makes recommendations regarding improvements and updates for equipment, supplies, and software as needed.
Maintains schedule for lab hours. Supervises and coordinates the laboratory during scheduled times.
Assists students to access and utilize computer and/or web-based resources.
Serves as a technical resource for students in Computer/Teaching/Research Lab.
Reports problems or difficulties related to lab and/or operation.
Reinforces and maintains departmental policy regarding lab utilization.
