Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Office of Statewide Clinical Services (OSCS) Deputy Director, this incumbent performs monitoring and complex nursing consultation for a designated caseload of individuals with developmental disabilities who are conserved by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).  Monitoring activities will occur across a variety of settings and include onsite visits, review of service delivery, response and review of care delivery for conserved regional center (RC) consumers who experience a change of condition, hospitalization, psychiatric health crisis or significant health related event, collaborating with RC clinical staff and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and/or Department of Social Services (DSS) partners to support optimal health care access and delivery, and provide training and technical consultation to RC staff and providers as indicated.  The incumbent will also focus on health promotion and preventative health care standards to improve outcomes for individuals conserved by DDS.  The NC III functions as a health professional providing nursing consultation, training, and technical assistance to residential service providers, RC staff, and/or clinicians related to consumer health care in the community.

This position is eligible to participate in DDS’ hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS’ guidelines .

Special Requirements

Must have an active valid license as a registered nurse in California.

Knowledge of: Principles, techniques, methods, and procedures of current nursing practices; epidemiology and methods of health promotion and disease prevention concepts and methods of control of communicable diseases; current philosophies and patterns of nursing education; principles and methods of consultation; group process and problem solving; research principles and methodology; roles, responsibilities, and interrelationships of the various health disciplines and health agencies; functions of social and health agencies; cultural and sociological patterns as they affect health programs; State and Federal legislation related to health services; management problem-solving methods; principles and methodology of research; current trends in the fields of nursing education and health care services; interagency and interdisciplinary relationships.

Ability to: Effectively provide consultation and technical assistance; establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of those personnel within DDS and in other social and health agencies; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; be flexible in approach to the solution of problems; communicate effectively; prepare reports.
