Barrett Paving Materials Inc. is looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for excellence to join our construction team as a Screed Operator in and around the Syracuse, NY area.

Hourly Pay Range
$35.00 - $40.00
Screed Operator Main Responsibilities
- Operate the screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as taught by crew superintendent to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
- Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making normal adjustments for accurate depth, grade and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls.
- Operate other equipment, required on an asphalt crew.
- Oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment.
- Operate equipment within designated area, with careful attention to detail, and an emphasis on craftsmanship.
- Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of machine spreads, and levels asphalt on subgrade of highway and related surfaces such as: parking lots, streets, etc.
- Detailed understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including: preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving
- Match all paver joints and maintain consistency.
- Observe distribution of paving material along Screed and control to eliminate voids at curbs and joints.
- The ability to operate the paver screed in a safe and consistent manner.
Screed Operator Skills
Asphalt/Paving heavy equipment experience preferred.
Screed Operator Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration
- The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
