Job description
Principal Software Architect/ Vertica Architect ( Systems and QA)
Employee Value Proposition (EVP)
Develop your talents in a way that will expand your career while working on truly challenging technical problems with other highly talented, yet humble and helpful engineers. The Vertica Analytical Database is mission-critical for most of our customers. It runs at a humongous scale, approaching 1,000 nodes in a single deployment with more than 30 PBs of data. Our database is flexible too, running both on- and off-cloud, powering a wide array of applications that apply various workloads, from dashboard queries to complex machine learning algorithms that are executed in the database. Designing cost-effective, yet thorough tests, and the infrastructure and tools to support these tests pose interesting challenges.
The Opportunity
Compelling opportunity to make a difference to your colleagues and to customers by improving the methods, tools, and infrastructure used to deploy and test the Vertica Analytical Database. The complexity of the systems requires a deep understanding of new technologies. This position offers an opportunity to share knowledge and mentor others, helping them turn ideas into useful tools and infrastructure.
You Are Great At
• Designing and implementing infrastructure to automatically deploy and automate efficient and effective testing of a large-scale software system. This includes designing and improving tools for functional, stability, and performance testing.
• Identifying inefficiencies in software development activity and coming up with solutions that enable engineers to move quickly, with fewer flaws.
• Mentoring other engineers, including prototyping design ideas sufficiently to be able to guide individuals or small teams to complete the implementation.
• Debugging and diving deep into cloud infrastructure issues.
What It Takes
• Required: Python, AWS administration, Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD, and SQL
• Desired: Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Rust, Java, GitLab, and Jenkins
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally one or more as tech lead or system architect
• Experience administering a database
• Experience in automation development and configuration management
• Experience in systems administration of a Linux distribution
