Job description
The Utah Department of Health is looking for an Overdose Outreach Coordinator that will be an integral part of the Violence and Injury Prevention Program's (VIPP) Overdose Data to Action efforts and will collaborate with partners across the state to implement overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Opioid Overdose Prevention Specialist to provide access to products, knowledge, tools, and information to stay healthy and to reduce the incidence of drug harm and overdoses in Utah.
This is a full-time, benefitted, grant-funded position with the VIPP. VIPP has been working on overdose prevention and harm reduction for the past decade. This program has resulted in saving Utah lives. Unfortunately, drug overdose continues to be a major cause of death in Utah.

Benefits Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS) :
Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.
Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System.
Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off :
Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).
Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.

- Stay up to date on the current drug overdose crisis and its impact on Utah communities and the science and evidence base for overdose prevention work.
- Coordinate distribution of overdose prevention products such as naloxone and fentanyl test strips to partners working in harm reduction.
- Work with partners to organize naloxone distribution events.
- Receive, research, and respond to incoming queries from the [email protected] account.
- Provide support and conduct training sessions on harm reduction, naloxone administration, fentanyl test strip use, and other harm reduction strategies.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret harm reduction data and make recommendations for improvement.
- Use data to prioritize and target communities at high risk for overdose.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations as it relates to overdose prevention.
- Ensure compliance with the CDC cooperative agreement.
- Oversee and update contracts with naloxone distributors.
- Organize and manage naloxone orders to ensure we are reaching target populations with products.
- Track all naloxone orders and develop yearly reports to share with partners.
- Work with the Overdose Epidemiologist to conduct evaluation and continuous quality improvement of the program.
- Support the Utah Coalition for Opioid Overdose Prevention (UCO-OP)’s harm reduction workgroup, attend meetings, and work with the group to develop strategies and track progress.
- Participate in Utah Department of Health WISH (Workgroup for Integrated Substance Use Health) coordination and meetings.
- Act as a liaison between the Violence & Injury Prevention Program and state and local harm reduction programs to ensure active communication and coordination in overdose prevention activities.
- Attend and support the Utah Syringe Exchange Network, provide materials, naloxone, and other technical assistance as needed.
- Represent the Violence & Injury Prevention Program at events targeting substance abuse and overdose prevention as needed.
The Ideal Candidate - Must have experience working in harm reduction or substance abuse prevention.
- Must have experience facilitating a coalition, council, or other workgroups.
- Must have experience presenting or training groups.
- Must have at least 1+ years of paid work experience in injury or Public Health
Preference May be given to applicants with:
- A Bachelor's degree in Public Health or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Working Conditions: Physical Requirements: - Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
