Director of Capital Campaign And Major Gifts
Job Summary
Castilleja is nearing the end of the largest capital campaign in its history and will begin the public phase of the campaign. Castilleja is seeking an experienced fundraising professional for the role of Director of the Capital Campaign and Major Gift Officer. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, this position will lead and complete the Open Their World campaign.
While leading the Open Their World campaign the Director of Capital Campaign and Major Gifts will also play an active role in identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition of individual donors, and elevate annual giving donors to leadership giving levels.
R oles and Responsibilities:
- Develop fundraising strategies, and track and analyze results of development activities
- Work with a portfolio of assigned prospective and current donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support
- Create collateral for campaign asks
- Partner with the Director of Advancement, Director of Annual Giving, Advancement Committee and Head of School to cultivate, solicit, and steward annual and major gifts
- Develop fundraising strategies, and track and analyze results of development activities, typically encompassing single campaigns
- Prepare the campaign steering committee for donor meetings
- Identify, recruit, and train volunteers, and maintain frequent contact with them through meetings, visits, email, and telephone calls
- Participate in preparing volunteers for future service through educating them about the philanthropic work of the school and engaging them in solicitation
- Solicit for major 5-10 figure gifts
- Identify and prioritize prospects and, as appropriate, make volunteer assignments, prepare background information for solicitations, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations
- Establish ongoing relationships with individuals through personal visits, phone calls, and meaningful contacts, uncovering information about their philanthropic priorities and capacity
- Ensure that data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in donor database (Veracross)
- Prepare fundraising reports and present to the Board and Campaign Cabinet
- Ensure donor acknowledgement, stewardship, and public recognition; track stewardship and recognition; design and customize stewardship materials
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Eight to ten years of development experience including major and planned gifts, annual campaign, donor solicitation, and preferably capital campaigns. Ideally with demonstrated success in individual, foundation, and corporate fundraising.
- Experience coordinating and working with volunteers.
- Experience organizing sophisticated donor cultivation and recognition events.
- Demonstrated effective and motivational leadership and management experience in leading a team toward a common goal.
- Must have strong communication skills; budget development and management skills, strong public speaking skills and experience delivering presentations.
- Must have excellent computer skills - knowledge of Veracross reporting is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Willingness to participate in evening and weekend fundraising and public relations activities.

- Castilleja uses a competitive salary scale which takes into account the range of experience, education and skill level. The yearly salary for this position ranges from $125,000 to $165,000.
