Job description

The position of Mill Floor Operator is responsible for the

operation of all Furnace Delivery, Roughing Mill, Finishing Mill,

down coiler and plate line equipment at the floor level in order

to obtain the proper levels of quality and productivity. This

position is also responsible for monitoring the rolling process

and the auxiliary equipment that is located in the mill bay. The

primary responsibilities of this position are outline below.

DUTIES

1. Daily monitoring and operation of the furnace delivery, roughing

mill, finishing mill, down coiler and plate line equipment at the

floor level utilizing all applicable work instructions.

 

2. Complete roughing mill check list minimum of once per shift,

notifying proper personnel of any abnormalities or problems.

 

3. Complete finishing mill check list minimum of once per shift,

notifying proper personnel of any abnormalities or problems.

 

4. Complete down coiler check list minimum of once per shift,

notifying proper personnel of any abnormalities or problems.

 

5. Complete hydraulic and lubrication check list minimum of twice

per shift, notifying proper personnel of any abnormalities or problems.

 

6. Perform scale pit pump checks minimum of once per shift.

 

7. Perform the down coiler pinch roll inspection/grinding every

campaign or as required.

8. Changing roughing mill work rolls and back-up rolls and

inspecting inside roughing mill housing at specified intervals.

 

9. Changing roughing mill wipers, roll cooling nozzles and

descaling nozzles.

 

10. Changing finishing mill work rolls and back-up rolls and

inspecting inside finishing mill housing at specified intervals.

 

11. Changing finishing mill wipers, roll cooling nozzles and

furnace coiler site glasses as necessary.

 

12. Scrap cutting and handling.

 

13. Change automatic bander material as required.

14. Perform automatic banding machine checks and maintenance

as required.

 

15. Perform all required checks on the coil marking machine.

 

16. Perform strip inspection as required.

 

17. Dumping crop buckets as required.

 

18. Clean out scale pits as required.

 

19. Clean cameras as required.

 

20. Perform crane inspections daily.

21. Reject slabs as required.

 

22. Assist operators with cobble clean up.

 

23. Perform plate and scrap inventory as required.

 

24. Perform operational spare parts inventory as required.

 

25. Load/unload operational material as required.

 

26. Properly identifying coils and plates.

 

27. Assist Furnace Entry with Slab Receiving and Campaign

Marking when needed.

 

28. General house-keeping.

29. House-keeping/maintenance work as assigned.

 

30. Following all prescribed safety rules.

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. All Mill Floor Operators are responsible for clearly and

thoroughly communicating all relevant information with the

personnel working in all areas of hot rolling facility within his

scheduled shift. This line of communication is also important

with the other Mill Floor Operators, hot mill shift leaders,

The Mill Unit Leader, Operations Group Leader, the Mill

Process Engineer/Supervisor responsible for his areas

and the Hot Rolling Manager.

2. All Mill Floor Operators report to their hot mill shift leader,

the mill Unit Leader, the Operations Group Leader, the

Process Engineer/Supervisor responsible for his areas.

 

3. All Mill Floor Operators are to take instruction from the

Lead Floor Operators. All problems are to be directed to the Mill

Turn Leader on his crew.

 

4. All mill operators should have the ability to work with all fellow

employees as a team. They should be able to communicate well and get

along with all personality types. They should also be able to handle

conflicts in a proper manner following their chain of command.

 

5. All mill operators are expected to be dependable in all manners.

They should show up to work on time, work efficiently all the time

they are scheduled, and do the best possible job they are capable of.

There should be no excessive time missed from work or the jobs they

are required to complete during their shift.

6. Other duties as assigned.

7. Participation in continuous improvement programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of High School Degree or Equivalent (GED), basic computer skills, strong communication skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1.) Mobility: Stand (stationary) - 60%, stand/walk - 75%,

walking - 75%, sitting - 05%.

2.) Strength and Agility: Lifting - occ. 150, carrying - con.

20, push/pull - occ.150, climbing - fre., balancing -

fre., bending - fre., stooping - occ., crouching - occ.,

kneeling - occ., crawling - occ., running - occ., twisting -

occ., turning - occ.

3.) Dexterity: Grasping (firm/strong), finger dexterity/handling, reaching.

 

HEALTH AND SAFETY

1.Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.

2.Follow Company safety rules.

3.Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.

4.Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:

Safety shoes

Safety glasses

Hearing protection

Hard Hat

5.Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.

6.Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.

7.Maintain a clean and safe work area.
