School Nurse

Randolph School is seeking a full-time nurse for grades PK-12 to help coordinate a school health program to enhance health and wellness in the school community.
Primary Job Responsibilities: - Administer first aid and care to ill or injured students and staff as stipulated by written school policies and procedures
- Document nursing interventions on narrative notes and/or clinic log in a confidential and accurate manner
- Maintain ImmPrint database (state immunization registry) and internal database
- Follow state and local health practice statutes, school policies, and administrative guidelines
- Serve as a medical resource and health advocate for students and school employees
- Assume the responsibility of appropriate health assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, treatment and referrals for students
- Play a key role in identifying health concerns, providing instruction, counseling, and guidance in the maintenance of good health practices and disease prevention
- Develop and implement school health policies and procedures with school administrators, Board of Health, and state and local health authorities
- Maintains compliance with the blood borne pathogen policy and handbook for the school
- Conduct in-service training for school personnel on health issues
- Identify and assess students’ health needs, implementing services and evaluating care plans to achieve optimum student learning and safety
- Collaborate with student support team to assess and address physical and emotional needs of students
- Assist in instructing students in health and nutrition education
- Communicate with athletic trainer regarding care of student-athletes
- Transports self and school equipment for school business to alternate locations using a personal vehicle
- Coordinate health requirements for school trips, including collating student health information and providing required equipment
- Serve as health professional on specific grade-level school trips as necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
- Some knowledge of the school organization and the community served
- Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources
- Ability to develop and maintain health records on students
- Ability to develop positive working relationships
- Ability to exercise sensitivity, confidentiality, and sound judgement when working with students and families
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse (RN) certification is required. Experience in school, pediatric, and/or public health nursing preferred.
