The Opportunity
As the Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in recruiting, training, and managing our team of volunteers. This position requires a person with strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a genuine commitment to community service. If you are enthusiastic about fostering a culture of volunteerism and making a difference, we invite you to apply for this rewarding opportunity. This position is part-time (15 hours per week on average). Some nights and weekends are required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Recruit, interview, and onboard new volunteers to match their skills and interests with appropriate opportunities within the organization.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local community groups, schools, and businesses to expand the volunteer network.
- Conduct volunteer orientation sessions and training programs to ensure volunteers are well-prepared for their roles.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments, ensuring proper coverage for events and programs.
- Collaborate with program staff to identify volunteer needs and communicate those needs effectively.
- Plan and organize volunteer appreciation events to recognize and celebrate the contributions of our volunteers.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of volunteers, including accurate records of volunteer information, hours, and activities.
- Keep new and existing volunteers informed about volunteer opportunities available via email and social media.
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers, addressing concerns and recognizing their contributions.
- Attend community events for recruitment of volunteers.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. A degree in business management, human resources or related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in volunteer management or coordination is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong organization and team-building skills are key to success in this role.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to be on site coordinating volunteers at GLASA events, including Great Lakes Games, Gala, regular visits to weekly programs and other events as needed.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and encourage others.
