Grayson College is seeking a full-time Cosmetology Instructor. Primary duties include classroom and laboratory instruction in the Cosmetology program in accordance with Licensing and Regulation. The position assists in the development and modification of curriculum as necessary; assists in strategic planning for the Cosmetology Department; and instructs in a variety of settings and formats, including high school dual credit, online, hybrid, and weekends/evenings. Must maintain state licensure and requirements.
The salary for this position is based on the Grayson College 2023-2024 Faculty Salary Scale,

- 65% Teaches Cosmetology lecture/lab courses per long semester; meets classes as assigned and provides assistance to students outside of class.
- 10% Works as a team member in the Business and Entrepreneurship Department; complies with the "faculty responsibilities" as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the College's Policy and Procedure Manual.
- 10% Develops and updates curriculum, participates in college and advisory committees, assists in registration, advisement, and recruiting of students; participates in the program budget process; assists with administering any grant-related budgets, reporting, etc.
- 10% Contributes to the campus assessment process by measuring and reporting student learning outcomes as directed to meet THECB Core Objectives, TDLR and SACSCOC requirements.
- 5% Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of state rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to cosmetology.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures for Cosmetology as required by state regulations. This includes supervision of student duties to ensure a clean and safe work and learning environment.
- Must be committed to student learning, integrating technology into the curriculum, and encouraging engaged scholars.
- Maintain accurate student records in compliance with Grayson College requirements and submit required student attendance and grade reports according to the Grayson College schedule/timeline.
- Direct and evaluate the learning experience of the students in accordance with adopted curricula and approved procedures.
- Teach assigned classes in keeping with approved syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials to meet course learning outcomes.This also includes teaching all levels of student skills and abilities and adjusting subject matter as required.
- Administer weekly grades and attendance as well as preparing lesson plans and activities, administering textbook material exams, and Texas State Board mock examinations.
- Sets the example for students related to work rules and complying with the dress code, code of conduct, and other policies of the Cosmetology department.
- Assist with the selection of appropriate materials/equipment for program use.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Cosmetology courses, curriculum, and learning outcomes.
- Assist in overseeing and coordinating public business services to the clientele.
- Work cooperatively with administration, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in state-wide cosmetology meetings, workshops, and service on division and college committees.
- Assist with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.
- Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications:
- Cosmetology Certificate and License in the State of Texas.
- A current Cosmetology Instructor’s License issued by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
- A minimum of one year of work experience in the field of Cosmetology.
Preferred:
- Associates degree in Cosmetology from an accredited College including recent experience with a Learning Management System such as Canvas or Blackboard.
- High School or College teaching experience in a Cosmetology laboratory environment.
- A minimum of three years of verifiable work experience in the field of Cosmetology.
- Work experience offering esthetics services in a spa or salon and/or Esthetician license.
- TDLR makeup certifications OR verifiable work experience with makeup.
- Barber Class A Barber Operator license or a Barber Instructor license.
- Nail sciences experience including basic and advanced manicuring, pedicure, nail enhancements, nail art, and state board preparation for nails.
- Manicurist license issued by TDLR.
- Experience with the TDLR Student Hour and Enrollment Automatic Reporting System (SHEARS) reporting system.
