The Division of Family and Community Services has an exciting opportunity for a Developmental Specialist, Senior to join the division's Developmental Disabilities Program. This position is located at Central Office in downtown Boise, and will serve Ada, Canyon, Elmore, and Gem counties.
The Developmental Specialist, Senior will work in Idaho's START Program, a community-based initiative that works to strengthen service outcomes for children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and mental health needs (IDD/MH). The START Program is a person-centered approach that employs crisis planning, positive psychology and other evidence-based practices. We are seeking applicants who have experience working with people with IDD/MH and their families utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach. This position must be able to work in the office on a regular basis; some teleworking will be possible.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Maintains an active caseload of individuals referred for START services.
- Assists with referrals for START services as needed, including screening for enrollment in START.
- Ensures the coordination of support meetings and crisis plan development for individuals enrolled in START; provides outreach visits to the individual in a variety of settings.
- Participates in and successfully completes the START Coordinator certification training within 12 months of hire.
- Develops comprehensive service evaluations, cross systems crisis prevention and intervention plans, intake/assessments, admission/discharge summaries, in-patient hospital admissions, and any other applicable documentation of services provided.
- Completes all required data entry expectations within set time frames.
- Understands how to use ecomaps as part of systemic analysis.
- Utilizes START Action Plan for planning and strategizing.
- Participates in the Center for Start Services National Network.
- Provides on call support on a rotational basis as part of a START team.
- May provide supervision to staff from other programs who are working within the START team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. - Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education, psychology, communication disorders, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other closely related degree AND specialized training in developmental disabilities OR one year of experience treating persons with developmental disabilities or a combination of special training and work experience as described.
- Considerable knowledge of remediation and treatment programs for people with developmental disabilities or delays with mild to severe impairment and both mental and physical handicaps. Typically gained through completion of at least nine credit hours of closely related Master's level courses in at least three areas OR approximately two years of experience providing direct treatment services to the broad range of clients as described above. A combination of training and experience may also qualify.
- Experience selecting, administering, and interpreting a variety of standardized and informal therapist developed assessments and test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities or delays. Typically gained by two years of experience performing these duties.
- Experience developing and adapting interdisciplinary prescriptive treatment programs to meet needs of clients with developmental disabilities including evaluation of client progress toward treatment objectives. Typically gained by approximately two years of direct treatment experience including development of short-term objectives and long-term goals.
- Experience planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions in at least two of the following service settings: facility based, home based, parent-partnership and community at large. Typically gained by approximately two years of experience performing these duties.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
- Experience and clinical training in mental health and developmental disabilities. Typically gained by at least five years of professional experience working with people who have IDD and mental health needs.
- Experience and ability to work with complex systems. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience working on a team with families, providers, and community members.
- Experience working independently while demonstrating organization and strong communication and writing skills. Typically gained by at least two years of professional experience where job duties included providing trainings, speaking in groups, and responsibility for maintaining documentation.
- Good knowledge of mental health and developmental disability social services/support services. Typically gained by at least one year of related professional experience that required knowledge of available resources and services.
- Experience providing crisis services in correctional, hospital, institutional, and community-based settings of both voluntary and involuntary clients. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience in one of the listed settings.
