Sales Application Specialist

The Sales Application Engineer (SAE) is crucial in our mission to create reciprocal partnerships with our business partners. The SAE is the spearhead, penetrating leads, creating opportunities, and potential sales for our distributors and driving market demand. They will utilize company and industry tools, along with market knowledge and knowhow to identify leads and secure the ABB Installation Products (Thomas & Betts) name onto customer specifications. This person will be the technical resource for their customers, distributors, and peers.
Your responsibilities
- Strong understanding of our industry, competition, products, and applications. Know the value that Thomas & Betts brings to the customer, end user, engineer, and industry.
- Ability to build and maintain a pipeline congruent with the business’ goals and objectives.
- Identify leads and be persistent in generating meetings and creating value propositions that will lead to the successful addition to customer specifications.
- Hunt for new leads & opportunities by collaborating with channel, local agents/account managers, available tools and resources, and other ABB businesses groups.
- Drive specification of the Premier portfolio with end users & specifiers. Focus on influence points within Industrials, OEMs, consultants, EPC’s and contractors.
- Build and maintain solid relationships that will provide visibility to current and future projects and opportunities. Own the region, the relationship, and the mission.
- Be the “go to” expert in the market for industry solutions relevant to our business. Have thorough product knowledge of T&B and competitors to differentiate yourself and become the trusted advisor.
- Demand generation through technical trainings and educational seminars to our customers, engineers, and distributors that will communicate the value of the Thomas & Betts solution.
- Grow and attend networking opportunities within their supporting region to ensure action and brand recognition.
- Accurately mapping and communicating accounts that are being developed.
- Maintain leads and opportunities through Salesforce (CRM) for visibility to the overall business on market activity.
- Bring voice of the customer on new product opportunities, product gaps and market trends to the commercial and product management teams for action
- Drive initiatives/campaigns as defined by Market Development Managers or Strategic Account Managers for key vertical markets (ie. Food & Beverage, Data Centers, Water/Waste Water, etc.) to gain spec position and end user conversions
Your background
- High School Diploma
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in engineering, business or related field;
- 5+ Years of experience in sales in the electrical, or related, industry
- Alternative to the above, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments;
- Proficient communication skills with the ability to reach a wide spectrum of personalities
- Strong ability to train and educate the technical aspects of products communicating the value proposition
- Problem solver. A genuine interest in solving customer problems.
- General knowledge of power transmission & distribution products/systems preferred;
- Must have knowledge and skill in utilization of computer databases;
- Combination of education and experience demonstrating ability for more complex assignment and/or promotable within the power product/systems sales organization.
- Up to 50% domestic travel required
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
