New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 56 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with over 200 hospitals and serves 14 million people in our region, screening nearly 55,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $110M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 300 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England and across the country.

Job Description

To be a leader in the development and implementation of strategies to increase the lifesaving and life enhancing gifts or organ and tissue donation through effective relationships with our clinical partners, donor families, and the communities we serve. Assumes day-to-day responsibility of the assigned ODS team, and supervises and evaluates the performance of the donation strategy Team staff. Through monthly rounding and 90 day plans, the manager provides coaching and mentorship with each direct report and leads the team strategies to meet and exceed team goals.

FOCUS AREAS/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

• Models culture of Continuous Quality Improvement. Works collaboratively with Donation Strategy leadership to:
  • Identify goals for hospital development initiatives.
  • Develop standards of practice and clear expectations for HDS job role.
  • Create protocols for communication of standard messaging and an optimal donation process.
  • Develop ongoing brand repositioning and/or marketing strategies based on identified needs and strategic direction.
  • Strategize with HDS staff on how to build and maintain necessary relationships with key hospital staff in order to promote supportive donation processes.
  • Monitor hospital development process performance and metrics to identify successes and opportunities for improvement.
• Builds a “team culture” within the HDS group by fostering trust, commitment, accountability and attention to the performance goals established by the organization.

Supervision:

• Provides direct supervision and support to respective Team members.
• Conducts monthly rounding meetings, ongoing performance feedback, goal setting and performance metrics, professional development, performance improvement plans and disciplinary processes as needed.
• Partners with Human Resources and Donation Strategy Leadership to address all employee relations issues in accordance with NEDS policy, procedure and practice.
• Holds all team members accountable to the organization’s goals and seeks out ways to continuously improve performance.
• Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures are communicated, trained and practiced.
• Conducts performance evaluations, sets goals and performance metrics in conjunction with the Senior Director, Donation Strategy.
• Participates as a key team member in the selection, orientation, coaching, professional development and disciplinary processes of team staff members.
• Uses conflict resolution and negotiation skills to resolve issues that arise both within and with other departments.

Administrative:

• Works collaboratively with Senior Director, Donation Strategy to review and manage employee benefit time requests.
• Reviews and approves employee expenses and time cards.
• Collaborates with Senior Director, Donation Strategy to formulate agenda for and lead department meetings as assigned.
• Models culture of Continuous Quality Improvement and participates in NEDS committees to this end. Committees may include but are not limited to OFI, PIC, QE review, and/or OMG as assigned by Senior Director, Donation Strategy.
• May perform other activities or special projects as assigned by Organ Leadership.

Training:  

• Participates in development of and/or delivery of onboarding, on-going and annual didactic training for HDS staff.
• Works collaboratively with Senior Director, Donation Strategy as well as the Senior Director, Education and Development to oversee HDS orientation and serves as a preceptor for new hires.
• Periodically conducts training and development needs assessments by observing meeting facilitation, hospital presentations and HD process standards of practice.
• Assists to conduct needs assessments for professional education and Hospital Development materials.

Clinical:

• Ability to analyze and interpret information within a patient medical record. May be tasked with documenting a chart review on a referral made to NEDS.
• Provides on-site response to referrals and cases as needed to support donation strategy team members.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Skilled Presenter : Responsible for development and delivery of all departmental presentations.

Data Analysis : ability to collect, analyze, and present data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships among variables.

Data Visualization : skilled in data visualization and storytelling for business leaders, learners, and their managers by using data visualization techniques—flow charts, graphs, plots, word clouds, heat maps, and infographics.

Quality Improvement and Quality Tools : working knowledge of quality tools including root cause analysis, establishment of effective corrective/preventative actions, work system design, Lean, and Six Sigma.

Computer & Application Literacy : proficiency Microsoft Office suite, Learning Management Systems, and instructional technologies including Zoom, Articulate 360 or other authoring tools to facilitate interactive learning, e-learning, and webinars.

Project Management Skills : demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities, and utilize time-management skills to meet deadlines.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills: strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to critically think, problem solve, and work productively both independently and as a team participant.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 2-4 years leadership experience in an OPO or other related clinical setting preferred.
• Ability to perform roles of Hospital Donation Strategist.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

• Registered Nurse and or individual with that have worked in the healthcare setting preferred.
• Required to travel by personal vehicle to meet the duties and responsibilities of this position. Must maintain the requirements of an “eligible driver” including maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and required minimum personal automobile insurance per NEDS automobile policy.
• Valid state driver’s license required.
