Dewberry has an immediately available opportunity for an Accounting Manager to join our Corporate Accounting & Finance Department at our headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia .
The Accounting Manager position will report to the Director of Finance and is responsible for specific areas relating to cyclical accounting functions. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager manages a group of 3 staff accountants. This position addresses tight deadlines and leads a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger, various cyclical allocations, reconciliations and journal entries , payroll analysis, and year-end audit management and coordination with KPMG. The Accounting Manager will need to build working relationship with all levels of management.

- Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and approving various accounting related function to include the oversight of lease accounting process, rent, facility and logistic allocations, payroll analysis and reconciliation and bank reconciliations.
- Leads and manages an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close, including account analysis and reconciliations.
- Lead and manages the coordination with KPMG Dewberry’s annual year-end audit process.
- Ensures accounting policies are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and tax requirements.
- Ensures timely issuance the financial reporting and maintains general ledger structure.
- Reviews project financial performance for revenue recognition.
- Collaborates with other accounting teams to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Communicates with Operations managers and project managers to resolve financial issues.
- Develops or improves the processes, procedures, and workflow tools within the Department to ensure efficiency, quality and accuracy.
- Manages, trains and mentors staff accountants, including establish goals and objectives annually to enhance their professional development.
- Reviews and keeps up-to-date the policies and procedures relating to accounting areas assigned.
- Participates in the development, modification, and review of accounting systems, reporting methods, and controls. Coordinates accounting functions with IT as necessary.
- Develop and nurture strong cross functional partnerships, driving business results and inspiring a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability.
- Recruit, identify, develop, and retain talent that delivers performance excellence .
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- C.P.A. preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of direct experience performing accounting functions.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of management experience.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with Government Contracting and FAR regulations would be a plus.
- Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Highly motivated self-starter.
- Ability to make independent judgment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel.
- Passionate about mentoring and effectively develop staff.
- Passionate about business excellence and continuous improvement in processes.
- Experience in Deltek Vantage Point and Planful EPM financial systems preferred, but not required.
